What This Course is About Course is about learning how to manage

operations more effectively. One of the main reasons why some

You must first learn how to recognize an operational problem.

You must then have the tools (models) to solve the problem.

Lastly, you must be able to interpret and report results to management.

Excel Add-Ins We will use two Excel add-ins:

“Solver” and “Data Analysis”

To install, click on Tools/Add-ins In the dialog box that appears, check:

“Analysis ToolPak” Don’t check Analysis ToolPak-VBA

“Solver Add-in” Depending on your version of Excel, you may

need the installation disk to install the add-ins.

Team Assignments Teams will be randomly called on in class

to answer questions on material in class notes and homework assignments.

“Term Report to Management” due on day of final exam.

5 members per team Make up a team name and give me an 8-

1/2 x 11 sheet paper with Names of team members and Team name

Due on September 11th.

Team Report to Management Report will deal with a case involving OM

problems. Your job is to

identify the problems, Analyze the problems, and explain the results of your analysis and offer

recommendations to management.

Team Report to Management Case will be posted on web site by on

October 1st. Report is limited to three, double spaced

typewritten pages using 12 point font. Pages not meeting these requirements will

not be read. You may add appendices

Tables graphs, etc. Not part of page restriction

Team Report to Management Report must put in a folder.

Loose pages will not be accepted. All teams members will receive the same

grade, unless the team feels that a team member did not contribute.

Self Managed Teams Teams are empowered to resolve their own

conflicts. If a team member doesn’t contribute, give me a

note with the team member’s name and include grade on assignment you think the team

member should receive, brief statement of why, have all other team members sign it.

Provide all team member with copy of note. I will assign this grade.

Exams Closed book You may have one 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of

notes, one or both side, for each exam. Exams are multiple choice but may include

short essay questions and/or problems. Multiple versions of each exam will be

given.

Exams No make ups If you miss the midterm, weight of midterm

(30%) will be divided between final (now worth an extra 15%) and an assigned paper, worth 15%.

If you miss the final exam, you’ll receive an F in the course.

Final is cumulative. You must take mid term and final with

section in which you are enrolled.

Class Conduct If you come to class, do not leave in the

middle of class. If you have an appointment and must

leave before the class is over, let me know and sit in the back.

If you leave in middle of class and do not let me know, I will deduct 5 grade points from your score.

If you are late to class, sit in the back, but don’t make a habit of being late.
