A. SUBJECT MATTER As you know, CSEA’s 19thAnnual Paraeducator Conference is designed with paraeducators specifically in mind, but open to all CSEA members and others within the educational community. This Conference offers skills-specific classes that cross over into other classifications having daily contact with students. Co-hosted by the State Department of Education, the 2016 Conference will be held at the Ontario Convention Center April 12-14. The registration brochure contains a partial list of classes that will be offered at the Conference (more classes are in the planning stages). A more complete schedule and list of classes will be on the CSEA website in the early Spring (www.csea.com/paraconference). The purpose of the training would be to update the skills of classified employees to learn best practices in a variety of areas, including but not limited to, student achievement, student and campus safety, and special education.

The 2015-16 Budget Act provides $3.2 billion in one time funding to reimburse local education agencies for state mandated costs. This discretionary funding can be used to fund professional de-velopment and investments such as Common Core implementation.

The registration fee is $109 per person (includes all class instruction, materials and two continental break-fasts). The pre-registration deadline is April 1, 2016.

REGISTRATION CONFIRMATIONConfirmation letters will be mailed directly to each participant’s home mailing address. Please be sure to provide your current address when completing the registration form.

REIMBURSEMENT SUBSIDYLet CSEA help defer the cost of attending the conference. CSEA offers up to $250 subsidies to financially assist members with opportunities that connect them to the union, the community, and/or to students. For more information and to download an application, visit www.csea.com; click on the Benefits tab; and scroll down to Scholarships/Grants. (Applications will be accepted beginning January 13 and must be postmarked no later than February 27. Applications are reviewed as they are submitted on a first come, first serve basis.)
