There is a group of verbs that have an irregular stem in the preterite.
One such verb is HACER Its stem becomes HIC in the preterite. These irregular verbs also have a different
pattern in the preterite:

There is one teacher. In preterit, we use HUBO (There were/was).

Some verb meanings change in the preterit… Conocer: To know (someone, place)
◦ Conocí* means to meet someone (beginning of knowing)
Poder: to be able to (have the ability)◦ Pude means you were able to do something.
Pude comer la pizza entera. No poder: to not be able to (w/o trying)
◦ No pude* means you failed after trying. (no) querer: to (not) want
◦ “No quise” means you refused to do something at a specific time. No quise comer anoche)
Saber: to know◦ Supe means you found something out or learned
(about) it. Anoche supe que el equipo americano ganó.
