A special thank you to Megan Reuter for taking the lead and Dani ODonnell for assisting in coordinating and executing the many details and putting in the extensive amount of time that goes into this wonderful event. School safety continues to be an important focus for our school district. We have been working closely with the Wauwatosa Police Department to ensure the safest setting possible for our students. One way the police department is partnering with us is by increasing their presence in our schools. Police officers will be stopping in and touring the buildings on a more regular basis to increase visibility. Don't be surprised if your child reports that a police officer joined their group during recess or at lunch. We will continue to communicate with families from both the District and the School regarding our safety protocols and updates. Drop off and pick-up times continue to present safety concerns for our students and families. I am asking that each of our 309 families adhere to our procedures. Please find a few particular points to note: Do not stop to pick up or unload children in the two moving lanes directly in front of the school building at any time. Do not park in the moving lanes, designated crosswalks, or at the end of parking rows. Use the crosswalks when crossing the parking lot to enter and leave the building. All children should enter the building from the playground with their classmates at 8:15 am. All children should exit the building through their designated doors to meet their pick-up person at the end of the day. (Please note, people attempting to enter the building through the main doors to pick-up will be redirected to pick-up from the outside. We cannot ensure that students are getting to their appropriate place with the number of adults attempting to pickup in the hallways at the end of the day. We also need to be able to account for who is in the building at all times.) All visitors to the building must wear an ID badge/Visitors badge at all times. This includes before/after school parent/teacher meetings that have been scheduled. I appreciate your immediate attention to these issues and look forward to every- one working together to keep our students and families safe. The community working collaboratively sends many positive messages to our students about being cared for, safe, and supported, and the value of The Eisenhower Way! Second graders facilitated our All School Morning Meeting about being Respectful this month. They did a fantastic job setting a positive example for all of our students. On behalf of the Eisenhower staff, I wish you all a relaxing, fun, and safe spring break. Enjoy the time with your children. Unit 5: Responsibilities and Traditions

We have recently begun our last unit of the

school year! This unit’s focus is on

responsibilities. This includes being responsible

students, family members, and citizens.

In first grade, students will share about their

families and responsibilities around the house.

Second graders will expand upon this by

discussing what they need to do, in what room

and with whom.

In third grade, students will be talking about

the responsibilities they have, and what

activities they like to do with their friends after

their responsibilities are complete.

In fourth grade, students will be learning what

it means to be responsible citizens. They will

learn what actions they can take to help the

environment. Students will interview others to

determine an environmentally healthy

practice they feel a need to promote.

In fifth grade, students will explore

responsibilities and traditions within the context

of a study abroad experience in Spain.

Students will talk with friends to make plans

about what to do after class or on the

weekend.

Home Challenge Find the directions to a game you like to play or the instructions for constructing a toy. Decipher which

language is which and see if you can find any words you recognize.

of the most exciting days at Eisenhower. Also, hats off to your crew

of volunteers who keep things moving all day.

Ryan Heffner Memorial Music Scholarship

Applications After Spring Break!

In November of 2014, the Eisenhower community unexpectedly

lost a beloved 4th grade teacher, Ryan Heffner.

To honor Mr. Heffner’s love of music and his legacy of inspiring stu-

dents to be more, the PTA annually awards two $100 scholarships

in his name. The scholarships will be awarded to two 4th grade

students who are choosing to participate in band or orchestra at

Eisenhower during their 5th grade year. The scholarship money is

to be used to offset the cost of rental fees or music book purchases.

REMINDER: Scholarship applications will be distributed to all 4th

graders right after Spring Break. The application submission dead-

line is Thursday, April 26th.

Scholarships winners will be announced at the Spring Concert on

May 10th. If you have any questions please contact Gail Freeborn

at [email protected].

Last call for Yearbook Photos!!

Get those cameras (or phones) ready! The kids love seeing them-

selves in the yearbook doing all of the fun activities that Eisenhow-

er has to offer. Technology has made this so easy and convenient,

so send those pictures of your child, their friends and classmates

during classroom parties, field trips and school or PTA sponsored

functions. Please send those photos along with grade & teacher, to

Brenda Butenhoff at [email protected]. If you have any ques-

tions, please call 414-257-0263.
