The good news is that Dick Ferrara is doing well; however, he and Joan will remain up North until after the holidays. Regarding Bob Pytell, sadly the doctors nally decided that the only way to combat the bafing infection that he has been experiencing was to amputate his leg. Nothing new regarding Ray Laenen or Jim Goss. Your Sunshine lady has sent special Christmas greetings to all of our under-the-weather members and will also check up on Terry Davis. It would truly be in the spirit of Christmas if we would take a moment to contact them during this holiday season. I’m sure their Christmas will not be as bright as ours. ROVING REPORTERS John Mozena and Fred Ollison shared the podium, so it was a “twofer.” It was announced that Bob Bashara’s son, Robert, graduated from Purdue with a degree in Engineering and is gainfully employed. Thus, he is off of his Dad’s payroll! James Burns is engaged and his eldest son and his wife are expecting their rst child. So, Ben will be adding “Grandpa” to his list of titles. The Kronners will become grandparents in August. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mike Carmody announced that our 3 Million Pound program goal is now at (I’ll spell it out ‘cause it sounds more impressive) two million, two hundred twenty-nine thousand, seven hundred sixty-seven pounds! The Canadian clubs have been a big help. 6,247 books have been given to the Literacy project. Diane Strickler’s “Chocolate/ Champagne” Party raised $1,200 for the Literacy Program! Mike also announced the upcoming “Family of Rotary” activity that will take place February 18 and 19: A hockey duel between the Windsor Spitres (taking place Feb. 18 in Windsor), cost $18.00 (of which $4.00 will be returned to Rotary) and the Plymouth Whalers (Feb. 19 in Plymouth), cost $11.00 (of which $4.00 will be returned to Rotary). In addition, the Franchise Restaurant in Windsor will provide a 20% discount when you present your hockey ticket. Wayne Titus has the tickets. There will be no meeting next Monday, December 27. SPEAKER There was no formal speaker this week. John Kronner took the mike to discuss future plans regarding membership. A Fireside Chat will be scheduled at John Mozena’s home after the rst of the year. Members who have never attended such an activity, be they new members or more seasoned members are urged to attend to discover exactly what Rotary is all about. John asked us to be aware of who is absent from meetings for any length of time and to call them to see if there is anything we can do to increase their attendance. He also suggested that we make an effort to simply “invite” people to our meetings. They need not be prospective members. Additional discussion was held on the current “classication” listings and what professional talents club members should be on the lookout for. Another discussion was held as to any changes we would suggest regarding time date, and also the music portion of our meetings. THE BIG RAFFLE The ticket drawn for the $10,000 Grand Prize was sold by Amy Gennaro to Geoffrey Eaton. FLOWER RAFFLE Although Ed Irvine held the winning ticket, he was not able to take home this “extra” Christmas present. The pot stands at $850.00. MEETING ADJOURNED AT 1:30 PM. HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR....
