Held on Sunday, 29 March this year, Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, which encourages people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood.

Neighbours are important because good relationships with others can and do change communities. Social connection also makes us feel better as it helps prevent loneliness, isolation and depression.

So why not host your own Neighbour Day event! Whether through an afternoon tea, a picnic in the park or a BBQ at your home, Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to get to know a new neighbour or to say thanks for being a great neighbour.

You can register your event at Neigbourday.org which has all the information you need to help you set up an event.

To help celebrate Neighbour Day, Lendlease is offering a grocery voucher to the first 10 Calderwood Valley residents to register their event on the Neighbour Day website to go towards the event. To be in the running you need to include the promo code ‘CAL’ when registering on http://neighbourday.org/

Terms and conditions apply, so contact the Calderwood Valley sales office or look up our Facebook pages find out more.

What will you be doing on Neighbour Day this year?

Lendlease recently hosted a Hard Hat event for future Calderwood Valley residents who will soon start building in the Primrose Release area.

Over 200 future residents got to walk on their land for the first time and take some family snaps.

It was also a great opportunity for those interested to talk to Lendlease staff about building their homes, learn about Shellharbour City Council’s waste management FOGO program and find out about connecting their homes to OptiComm fibre.

A favourite for most was the sausage sizzle provided by the Calderwood RFS team and young ones got to enjoy face painting, balloon bending and a bouncy castle.

The success of any neighbourhood is built on its community spirit and it was great to see neighbours meeting each other for the first time.

Construction updateThe Figtree Release (Stage 3B South) is well progressed with kerb and gutter now installed, retaining walls substantially complete and installation of footpaths well underway. Figtree is taking shape, with asphalt recently laid. We are on track for registration of this stage in mid 2020.

In November 2019 construction of The Primrose Release (Stage 2C) reached completion acceptance by Council. The subdivision application of Primrose is currently progressing with Council and registration is on track for March-April.

What do you do / What is your role? How are you connected to Calderwood Valley?

I am the Social Sustainability Coordinator at Calderwood Valley. Part of my job is to help our residents connect with their community, help special interest groups set up and manage the Sprout Hub community space.

What do you love about Calderwood Valley (living/working/playing)?

I love our community. I’ve met many amazing, community minded residents who are keen to get involved.

…and I still get blown away by the amazing escarpment views. It’s absolutely beautiful!

What are you reading/watching/listening to at the moment?

I have trouble sitting still, but when I do, I like reading murder mysteries or watching equestrian educational videos.

What’s your favourite thing you do in your spare time?

Horse riding has always been my passion and after quite a few years break I’ve finally got back to it.I mainly enjoy trail riding and getting outdoors and in the fresh air.

Did you know that 10c in every dollar spent at Bean Roasted located in the Calderwood Valley Sprout Hub goes back to the community via the Calderwood Valley Seedling Fund?

The Seedling Fund is a community led grant initiative that helps non-for-profit groups, organisations and bright sparks to run programs, start initiatives and buy much-needed items to benefit the Calderwood Valley community. Groups and clubs can apply annually in a process similar to crowd funding; so the community decides how dollars are distributed.
