We at Cal Youth Camps are proud to uphold the Cal tradition of excellence. We

offer a wide variety of camps and sport activities for kids of all ages and have been doing so for 56 years. We believe our staff is second to none. We design our programs to provide kids with a summer season full of adventure, friendship, confidence building, and fun. Go Bears!

Need to drop off early or pick up late? We offer both AM and PM Extended Care.

Our Outdoor Adventure camps offer Lunch Extended Care, allowing you to create a full day experience when registering for two half-day camps.

Register for Extended Care when you sign up for your camp. Prices vary according to the camp selected.

Scholarships

Camp is a great experience for kids. It’s a place to learn new skills, meet friends, and have fun! We want as many kids as possible to have the opportunity to attend our camps. But we also know that the cost of camp can be a burden for some families. For that reason, we’ve created a scholarship program.

Immunization RequirementsIn accordance with California state law, parents/guardians will be required to submit documentation showing up to date immunization records for their child and indicate the date of their last tetanus shot, prior to the start of camps. A physician or school immunization record is acceptable. No camper will be allowed to participate without this documentation.

Explorer Camp

So Many ActivitiesWe focus on building life skills such as teachwork, confidence and independence within each camper. We offer both high intensity and calmer activities to balance the energy of our campers, including: Basketball, Dance, Lacrosse, T-ball, Art & Nature, Yoga, Swimming Lessons, Track & Field, Frisbee, Music, Chess, Volleyball, Football, Rugby, Soccer, Motor Fitness, Gardening and more!

Creative ThemesEach camp session features an existing theme to enhance learning, creativity and camp fun! Past sessions have included: Out on the Farm, Reading Rainbow, Jungle Time, Outer Space, and Under the Sea.

StructureCampers are grouped by age and take part in eight 30-minute activities per day. Campers are always accompanied by enthusiastic staff who encourage and guide them during all activities and breaks. Explorer campers will learn new skills, make new friends and enjoy a variety of activities.

Blue Camp

Join The FunCampers try a variety of activities, learn to advocate for themselves, navigate their activity schedule, and have fun while receiving top level instruction from our staff. Blue Camp is a place where independence and personal responsibility are fostered.

At Blue Camp

Social Skills Camp

Our CampBlue Camp has one-of-a-kind social skills camps for children with Nonverbal Learning Disabilities, High Functioning Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and children with similar social skills deficits.

Elementary at Blue CampCampers are organized into groups of three or four campers and are assigned a specialized group leader who helps them through their day. The groups follow a daily schedule that includes social skills coaching throughout the day as they are fully integrated into the camp experience. Grades 4-8th.

UC Berkeley Leadership Program for Teens Teens get the opportunity to learn leadership skills in the context of a camp environment. This program parallels our traditional counselor-in-training programs yet adds direct social skills support and activities designed to meet the individual’s goals. Grades 9-13th.

Cal Adventures

Rock Climbing

This Camp Rocks!For young climbers, this camp is a great way to learn the basics, gain confidence, and participate in what is an amazingly exhilarating activity. It’s so fun!

StructureIn five days, campers will learn a wide range of skills including: climbing safety, knots, belaying, climbing technique, rappelling, and more. Campers are grouped by age: 8-11 and 12-17.

LocationsCamp meets at the Berkeley Marina, then travels to various climbing sites in the Berkeley Hills, such as Indian Rock.

Cal Adventures

Sailing

Introduction to SailingThis camp uses Coronado 15 sail boats and will introduce the RS Venture—both have a main sail and a jib sail, yet are small enough at 15 feet and 16.5 feet respectively for young people to sail successfully. Campers will learn water safety, rigging, tacking, jibing and basic self rescue procedures. Kids will sail with two to four per boat under the close supervision of instructors.

Intermediate SailingThe Intermediate Sailing camp is designed for young sailorswho have completed our Introduction to Sailing camp, or have acquired basic sailing experience elsewhere, and are ready to transition to sailing our RS Venture sail boats in the stronger afternoon winds. Campers will focus on beating upwind, crew overboard, high wind jibing, and heaving-to.

Cal Adventures

Paddling

Adventure Paddling During this exciting week, campers learn to master sit-on-top kayaking, including: proper paddling techniques, paddling strokes and steering. We’ll also teach the fundamental skills of stand-up paddleboarding, including: balance, knee paddling and quick turns. FUN, FUN, FUN!

Sea Kayaking Campers will learn to kayak in our stable, single-persontouring sea kayaks. Our highly skilled staff will teach participants to develop open water paddling techniques, bracing skills, wet exit proficiency, safety procedures, T-rescues and paddle float rescues.

Cal Adventures

Windsurfing

Introduction to Windsurfing Our five day schedule is for campers with no prior experience but it can also accommodate campers with windsurfing experience who need more practice in lighter morning wind conditions. At the completion of the camp, campers will have a working knowledge of Windsurfing. Ages 10-17.

‘Drop-In’ Intermediate Windsurfing Campers get lots of practice time on the water where ourinstructors provide plenty of individual attention. Our Drop-In Intermediate Windsurfing camp takes advantage of stronger afternoon winds and will allow campers to advance their skills in more challenging conditions. Instruction focuses on tacking, jibing, reading the wind, safety issues and more. Ages 12-17.

Cal Adventures

Science Adventures

Explore Marine and Terrestrial Ecosystems!All aboard! This experiential camp gives kids the opportunity to observe, examine, and analyze a variety of Bay Area ecosystems—both on the water and on terra firma. Campers will enjoy fun-filled, hands-on marine science activities aboard the 65 foot Derek M. Baylis sailing research vessel. We’ll also trek in and around Bay Area forests and shorelines on a quest to understand the systems that are thriving all around us.

What We’ll DoBy land and sea, we’ll discover tide pools, examine and evaluate phytoplankton, survey forest ecosystems, sample and analyze SF Bay water, map SF Bay debris, and conduct marine mammal watches! Plus much more!

Where We’ll GoOur discovery zone will be East Bay Regional Parks, San Francisco parks, the forested lands of Strawberry Canyon, Tidepools at Crab Cove, to name a few. We’ll sail throughout the SF Bay, including journeys to Angel Island, Raccoon Straits, The Golden Gate Bridge, and the ocean beyond.

Afternoon Adventures Camp

Adventures by Land & SeaIn this high energy camp, you can look forward to afternoonsfilled with activities such as kayaking and stand uppaddleboarding on the SF Bay, teambuilding through outdoorfield games, day hiking, geode hunting, and sculpting and molding your own environmental clay art.

Amazing LocationsCamp always meets at the Berkeley Marina, but we don’t stop there. Potential travel locations include Tilden Park, Cesar Chavez Park, Strawberry Canyon Pool, and Shorebird Park.*

Discovery Camp

Big Time AdventuringDiscover Camp is the perfect choice for adventurous kids looking for a full day of outdoor fun. Our program combines an amazing variety of exciting outdoor activities and the chance for campers to become a member of a tight-knit group while doing it! Expect each week to be jam packed with outings all over the Bay Area.

Skateboard Camp

What You’ll DoRide ramps and street obstacles from 3’ to 13’ tall in a nationally recognized skateboard program that is a pioneer in skateboard instruction and design. Campers ride with skaters their own age while learning new tricks. Local pros and sponsored skateboarders visit camp and do demos.

Beginners Welcome! These camps are a great introduction for the first-time skater. All of our programs are grounded in exclusive skateboard curricula. Ages 8-16.

Swimming Lessons

Infants, Youth, and TeensWhether your child is learning to swim or wants to refine established strokes, we have the right class for you! Our program begins with basic water comfort and confidence, moves into the technical basics of the 4 competitive strokes, and advances into competitive race strategy and skills. Our highly trained instructors emphasize fun, water, safety, and life-long learning in the class.

StructureWe offer both group lessons and private lessons. For infant swim lessons, parents join the class. For ages 3-5, parents do not accompany children in the water. For ages 6-16, classes are broken into 6 different levels, ranging from very basic to more advanced.

Academic Talent Development Program

Develop Your Mind and Body!Students who are already enrolled in the UC Graduate School of Education’s Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP) spend a portion of their day participating in sports and recreation activities. The curriculum of each activity is developed specifically for ATDP students and geared toward nurturing the fundamental skills necessary for each activity through fun, experiential learning.

Activities We offer a choice of activities each hour that include either atraditional sport, a recreational activity or an art specialty.

Oh, the Choices!Campers can register for our 4-days per week AM or PM program, or our full day or half day Wednesday only program.

Martial Arts Camp

Camp GoalsProvide quality instruction and techniques; encourage youth to enrich their lives through fitness of mind and body by training in the martial arts; and promote the development of positive personal character.

Instruction + Fun Campers will have Judo, Taekwondo, Wushu or Yongmudo training each day. There will also be indoor activities such as dodgeball, martial arts demonstrations, and watching movies. There will also be excursions such as a campus tour and a yogurt day.

UC Berkeley Leadership Programs

Get Work Experience & Have FunWe offer a Junior High and High School tiered leadership-to- work program that provides kids with an opportunity to learn outstanding leadership skills that can be applied to all aspects of life.

Campers in Leadership Training Campers participate in leadership lessons focused on working with youth and learning general job skills. Each participant receives hands-on coaching and a UC Berkeley Leadership Certificate upon completion. Cal Archery Academy

Fun for All Skill Levels Cal Archery Academy, Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) is a program of USA Archery that teaches archery to young people, provides great opportunities for awarding achievement, and helps archers to enjoy th e sport recreationally or progress to the excitement of competition! Windsurfing & SailingWhen summer ends it doesn’t mean it’s time to stop boating. Keep your boater’s feet wet in our after school wind sports program. All experience levels welcome!

What You’ll GainFrom reading the wind and tides, to safe maneuvering, docking,back-winding, equipment maintenance and teamwork, the after school program teaches young boaters everything they need to know about wind sport safety.
