International Design Studio was created by Christian Lepretre in 1995. The founding office is based in Cairo where it caters for both local and international clients. Christian’s career spans more than 35 years during which time he worked mainly on hotel projects but also on projects such as offices, banks, restaurants and residential.

With the growing need for professional and expert services in the interior design industry in Dubai, opening an office seemed like a step in the right direction for IDS. The Dubai office was founded in January 2006, joining Graeme’s Dubai team of 2 years and Christian’s Cairo team of 15 years, as a result of the  boom taking place in the Middle East.

This office will cater not only for the needs in this area but also globally. Heading up this office and partner is Graeme Anderson, an interior designer with more than 20 years of experience in the hotel interior design industry. Throughout this time Graeme has worked with some of the world’s top design companies and has been involved with many five star hotel projects throughout Europe, the Middle East, the Americas and Asia.

In addition IDS has opened an office in Hong Kong headed up by Barry Withington, an Interior Designer with more than 20 years of experience in hospitality 12 of those being based in Hong Kong.IDS also has two associate offices in Paris and Kuala Lumpur ensuring that no matter where the project may be based it will be in a position to service its clients promptly and effectively.      

Christian, Graeme and Barry have extensive experience. Having more than 70 years of experience between them, clients can be assured of not only vast knowledge and experience but also the expertise to give the client exactly what it needs with concepts that are at the very highest level of hospitality design.

CHRISTIAN LEPRETRE

Christian is a native of France and graduated from the Ecole Boule with a degree in Interior Design. He is fluent in English and French.Christian was first employed in 1970, working as a Junior Designer with the owners of the Hilton International in Madagascar.

In 1972 he joined Club Mediterranee to work on several projects in Morocco and Italy, where after he worked as designer for Jean Weiler Architects, Paris, who were the Architects for the Club Mediterranee and Meridien Hotels. From 1975 till 1980, Christian served as Corporate Designer and Project Coordinator for Hilton International in their office in Europe. He completed projects in Iran, Kuwait, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, Italy, Kenya, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

In 1980 Christian founded his own design company in Nairobi, Kenya. Major projects included : Hilton International Nairobi, Kenya – Hilton International, Khartoum Sudan – Hilton International Lodges Salt Lick and Taita Hills Kenya – Intercontinental Mombassa, Kenya – Intercontinental Nairobi, Kenya – Intercontinental Kinshasha, Zaire – Intercontinental Musy O Tunia Victoria Falls, Zambia – Mount Kenya Safari Club, Kenya. In addition Christian’s firm completed several other projects such as privately owned hotels, restaurants, banks and office buildings as well as large residential projects. This list includes as his major clients : Indosuez Bank, Total Oil Products, Caltex Oil Products, Air France, Alitalia, Mr. Adnan Khashoggi’s Ranch house in Namyuki, Kenya.

In 1995 Christian founded International Design Studio in Cairo, Egypt (with an associate office in Paris, France) which provides services in all phases of the interior design process.

GRAEME ANDERSON

Graeme has been in the hotel interior design industry for over 20 years, the first 14 years of which were with London based design companies. Throughout this time, Graeme has worked with some of the world’s top design companies and has been involved with many projects throughout Europe, the Middle East, the Americas and Asia.

Graeme moved from London in 1997 to join a partnership in Miami, Florida working mainly in Asia but also in Europe and the America’s.

Graeme joined Hospitality & Leisure Associates, Dubai in January 2004 to open a new international hotels division, strategically based in Dubai.

In January 2006 Graeme left HLA and joined International Design Studio as a partner in their new Dubai office.

During his career, Graeme has been involved in the conceptual design of many 4 and 5-star hotels, designing front of house hotel lobbies, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, casinos, ballrooms, business centers, health clubs, spas, suites, guestrooms, and conference hall’s. Graeme has worked on boutique hotels as small as 15 rooms with Diesel Jeans in South Beach Miami, to 45 storey flagship hotels for Le Meridien and Shangri-La. He has also completed international signature restaurants, working closely with the operator to form new and exciting dining experiences.

BARRY WITHINGTON

Barry Withington originates from New Zealand where he studied architecture and hotel design before moving to London.

After several years of involvement in high-end residential and retail design he spent a year in the Middle East designing interiors for the Omani Royal Family’s luxury villas and the Sultan’s royal yacht. Upon returning to the United Kingdom Barry continued in hotel design with some of London’s most prestigious design consultancies.

In 1994 he moved to Hong Kong, appointed as Senior Designer for Hirsch Bedner Associates and later as Managing Director of Bilkey Llinas Design. More recently he was Project Director with BUZ Design.

After more than 20 years in the hospitality design field Barry has worked with the majority of the world’s leading hotel companies including Peninsula Hotels, Mandarin Oriental, Starwood / Sheraton, Hyatt International, Shangri-La, Intercontinental, Ritz Carlton and Langham Hotels. This breadth of experience and dedication to design remains a rare commodity in Asia.
