Who is CAFOD?

The letters stand for the

Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.

They state: “Our mission is to promote human development and social justice in witness to Christian faith and Gospel Values.”

What are their aims?

Why does CAFOD do this work?• All humans have the right to dignity and respect• The world’s resources are a gift and to be shared

equally• All men and women, whatever race, nationality or

religion, have a right to the world’s resources• When confronted with poverty and suffering,

compassion is a normal human response.What is their Christian motivation :• Inspired by scriptures• Drawn from the social teachings of the Church• Based on the experiences and hopes of the poor

• Read through the different actions that CAFOD takes in helping others.

• From your view, rank them in order of importance and stick into your book.

As we look at them, with the person next to you create this spider-diagram, writing down what you notice about the advert:

• Task: Design an advert for CAFOD, using one of the things that they do as a focus, i.e. Education.

• Audience: Catholic churches

• Purpose: To persuade them to support CAFOD

Extension: Annotate your advert, explaining why you designed it in

this way.
