4. Programming functions

The function keys under the textdisplay screen are used to pro-gram functions (fig. 1/A and 4):

P = Programming mode> = Selection keyok = Confirmation keyexit = Cancel or end programming

Important: Please note that youcan only program functions if theOn / Off button (fig. 1/F) is switched to ON (stand-by mode, display lit up).

The following functions are pro-grammable:

• Operation with / without filter• Water hardness• Temperature• Language• Time• On / Off time (timer and

automatic stand-by)

4.1 Filter

Inserting a filter

A special filter for the water reser-voir is included in the machineaccessories. If you use this filtercorrectly you will not need to des-cale your coffee machine as often(recommended: descale about twice per year, see point 5.4, ‘des-caling’). You must change the

filter setting to “FILTER YES” sothat the machine knows that thefilter has been inserted. The de -fault setting is “FILTER NO”.

The current setting is indicated inthe display screen.

➔ Press the program key ‘P’ toenter programming mode. ➔ Press the > key until “PROGRAMFILTER” appears in the display.➔ Press the ‘ok’ key.➔ Press the > key until “FILTERYES” appears in the display. ➔ Press the ‘ok’ key to confirm. ➔ “FILTER CHANGE” and “TURNVALVE” appear alternately in thedisplay. ➔ Empty the water tank (fig. 1/Band 2) and screw the filter intothe bracket provided in the waterreservoir using the assembly toolon the end of the measuringspoon.➔ Fill up the reservoir with freshwater and put it back in themachine. ➔ Hold a container under thesteam / hot water jet (fig. 1/T) andturn the control knob (fig. 1/Q and 7) to the right to open. Thesystem will now be rinsed out.

Page 16: CafeRomatica & 740 · CafeRomatica Fully automatic coffee centre Operating Instructions and Useful Tips 720/725 & 740 A passion for coffee.

16

➔ Wait until no more water comesout of the jet for a short time andturn the control knob (fig. 1/Q and 7) back to the left to close.(Caution: If water continues tocome out of the jet after a shortwhile, the system is also ready. Ifthis occurs, turn the control knobback to the left anyway.)➔ The system briefly warms up(“SYS. IS HEATING” appears inthe display), and is then operatio-nal again. ➔ Note: The service button (fig.1/I) may still flash. Press the but-ton (fig. 1/I) and the system willbriefly be rinsed out through thecoffee spout (fig. 1/J and 5).

Important: If you use a filter foryour machine and have changedthe function setting to “FILTERYES” the water hardness andmanual descaling functions will nolonger be shown. The filter losesits efficiency after processingabout 50 l of water (for changingfilter, see chapter 5.2).

Caution: If the machine is rarelyused and the “FILTER CHANGE”signal does not appear in thedisplay, the filter must be re -

placed anyway after no longer thantwo months (see chapter 5.2“Washing filter manually”).

Operating without a filter:

If you no longer wish to use a filter, the filter setting must be changedback to “FILTER NO”. This isimportant, as without a filter themachine must be descaled (themachine is delivered in thedefault setting “FILTER NO”).

➔ Press the program key ‘P’ toenter programming mode. ➔ Press the > key until “PRO-GRAM FILTER” appears in thedisplay.➔ Press the ‘ok’ key.➔ Press the > key until “FILTERNO” appears in the display. ➔ Press the ‘ok’ key to confirm. The display reads: “PROGRAMFILTER”.➔ You can now either continue inprogramming mode to changeother function settings or press‘exit’ to leave programming mode.

3 red dots / 15–21° = “HARDNESS LEVEL 3”

4 red dots / > 21° = “HARDNESS LEVEL 4”

Note: If none of the dots turn redon the test strip, please set level 1.

➔ Press the program key ‘P’ toenter programming mode. ➔ Press the > key until “PROGRAMW.
