Starting with observation at Stuffy’s Sandwich shop and progressing to stud-ies of human dimensions, I first de-signed the seat based on the height of the popliteal dimension.

Using a combination of hand and com-puter drawing I developed the construction of the cantilevered table using standard framing techniques.

Inspiration for curved ceiling was taken from St. Henry’s Ecumenical Art Chapel in Turku, Finland.

Pairs of booths fit nicely between two columns and face out towards the window looking over the street.

The undulating form of the ceiling interacts with the higher space be-tween the concrete columns and beams of the base building.

The open space can be used for a variety of things. The two primary functions are as a gallery and as a classroom critique space. Other functions include live music and other performance oriented events.

Windows at the top and bottom flank the pin-up panels and provide a connection with the exterior while minimizing distracting direct views of people or objects nearby.

The view from the street draws the eye inside through inviting curves.

The Glulam beams create a unique vault-like curve while also interacting with the height change provided by the beams above.
