CHINA ASEAN EXPOSITION (CAEXPO) 20133 to 6 September 2013

CAEXPO, co-sponsored by China and ASEAN, is an international event held annually since 2004 with the objective of promotingthe China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA). It is considered as a good platform for cooperation in the fields of trade, investment,

tourism, and deepened friendship between ASEAN and China.

The Initiation of China-ASEAN Expo 1

At the 7th China-ASEAN Summit on 8 October 2003, Premier Wen J iabao of the People's Republic of China proposed that a China-ASEAN Expo be held annually in Nanning, Guangxi, China from the year 2004 onwards. His initiative was welcomed by the ASEANleaders and was written into the Chairman's Statement released after the Summit. The Chinese Premier also suggested that aChina-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit be held simultaneously with the China-ASEAN Expo.

The 1st China-ASEAN Expo and the 1st China-ASEAN Business and investment Summit were successfully held in Nanning, Chinain November, 2004.

The Country of Honor mechanism was introduced during the 4th CAEXPO in 2007. For each CAEXPO, an ASEAN country acts asthe CAEXPO Country of Honor, whose state leader is invited to the event with his/her delegation, to ensure that each CAEXPO willhave the attendance of ASEAN state leaders, thus to maintain CAEXPOs influence in political and diplomatic arenas.
