The Eden Project is a visitor attraction in the UK,including the world’s
largest greenhouse.Inside the artificial biomes are plants that are
collected from all around the world. The complex comprises a number
of domes that house plant species from around the world, each dome
emulating a natural biome.the domes are made out of hunderds of
hexagons plus a few pentagons that connect the whole construction;
each of these is a transparent cushion made of tough plastic. The first
dome emulates a tropical environment, the second a warm temperature,
Mediterrannean environment.
Solid thinking is a 3D modeling and rendering software. It is a computer
aided industrial design software,i.e.software developed to meet the
specific needs of industrial designers and style centers who need a
flexible software to blend aesthetics and ergonomics with functionality
in the form of cars, bottles, all of the designed objects surround us.
Rhino grasshopper is a generative progamme for designers. We can
make a logic by our brain and generate the model by the arrange
the language block in it. So, following the logic we can generate the
model step by step.
Argumentation
Firstly, i want to make the main shape by solid thinking because it good
at modeling smooth surface.Secondly, with the generative programme
grasshopper for rhino, we can generate the model step by step.
open solid thinking8.0
create a sphere
trim it from the middle
save it as 3dm file
open rhino
open grasshopper
create a point
set the point into grasshopper
create a polygon and set the radium
create another polygon surrounding the first one
create one more polygon
divide it
set divide number
rotate it
create six more polygons surrounding it
turn off all previews except the last one
follow that logic create 7 times
bake the pattern to rhino
import the surface we did in solid thinking8.0
project the pattern to the surface in rhino
set the pattern as curve
create pipe from the pattern
create pipes by the curve
bake to rhino
final model
rendering
conclusion
appendix:
The logic is that:
1.create the surface by solid thinking8.0
2.generate the pattern by grasshopper for rhino
3.import the surface by solid thinking8.0 to rhino
4.project the pattern to the surface
5.generate the frame by grasshopper
6.finish the final model
