News from Archie’s Nest A newspaper created by Mrs. Clark’s Fourth Grade Class Mrs. Childress wins Teacher of the Year Did you hear the latest news-Mrs. Childress won Teacher of the Year for AT Allen Elementary for the 2015-2016 school year? Do you wonder how she felt about winning? Well so Question: How did you feel when you found out you had won teacher of the year for A.T Allen? Response: Mrs. Childress told us that she was teaching 2nd graders number nicknames when the principals and Archie came in with roses and balloons. She thought it was something else, like a student’s birthday and then she was told that she had won Teacher of the Year so she was very shocked and excited. Question: What do you contribute to winning this award? Response: She said that she had a limit last year with computer cart and she couldn't really do her teacher thing. She didn't get her own room till the end of the year and it didn't let her do fun activities with the kids. She contributes her winning to the environment at A.T. Allen and the way we want to do things bigger and better for all kids. Question: Did you think you would win the award? Response: Mrs. Childress did not think she would win at all. She explained that she was an oddball and so she voted for someone else. She also said we have incredible staff members with incredible brains and hearts and amazing determined teachers. Question: How did you celebrate after you won? Response: She quickly emailed her husband to let him know. She also realized the day and time that she was recognized. This day also acknowledged her 5 year mark of being cancer free. It was an important day for her because the chances of getting cancer again is very small. After school she had a big dinner with her family. Question: Do you think your work with the garden club helped you win the award? Response: Yes, because it's going over your average day of teaching to pass on skills to kids. Respect 4 Teachers

You might think teachers are not nice or mean to you because they give you too much homework during the week.  BUT, If you have this type of teacher, or a teacher at all, you are lucky because some kids do not have a teacher to help them learn to read or do math.  So make the most of your time with your teacher and respect that teacher until you go on to the next grade and respect that teacher through that grade and the next.  Just some food for thought.

Response:  She stated she wasn't able to be herself in the computer lab because we would spend all day on the computers and not interacting with each other, but in stem lab she can do technology with all the fun stuff tied in.

Humphrey Update from Mrs. Meyer

Have you been wondering how Humphrey has been adjusting to life here at A.T. Allen? Well so have we, so we sent Rosy, Shelton, Rosemary, Madison and Caleb to interview Mrs. Meyer to find out just how Humphrey is doing. Read below to find out.

Question:  What does Humphrey do in his free time?

Response:  Since he is nocturnal he sleeps most of the time in the daytime but is very active in the night.  

Question:  What is Humphrey's favorite food?

Response:  He likes the baby food because he doesn't want to eat grown up food.

Question:  Does Humphrey feel comfortable here at A.T. Allen? How do you know?  How does he show you?

Response:  He feels very comfortable because he likes getting in his plastic wheel and seeing all the children.

Question:  What do you do with Humphrey on the weekends?

Response:  Well teachers take Humphrey home over the weekend.  For example Mrs. Naylor took Humphrey to the beach and Mrs. Meyers took Humphrey home and gave him complete freedom without his ball.

Question:  Will students be able to bring Humphrey home on the weekends?

Response:  Not yet until he stops getting the habit of biting then we'll have to talk to Mrs. Nash about being able to take Humphrey home.

Question:  Would we be able to bring Humphrey into our classroom for one day?

Response:  If you want Humphrey in your classroom for one day you have to write a persuasive letter to me about why you should be able to have Humphrey for one day.
