2Spring Weekend Features Events For EveryoneFaculty, staff and students are invited

to “Spring it On” as the University cele-brates Spring Weekend 2006. In addi-tion to the popular Rick Farina SoftballTournament, the fun will include per-formances by seven local bands.

Attractions Friday, April 28, andSaturday, April 29, will include fair-style food booths on the outdoor basket-ball courts between the Reilly Centerand the Sandra A. and William L.Richter Center, along with outdoorentertainment, a caricature artist and anairbrush tattoo artist.

Hickey Dining Hall will be closed fordinner on Friday night and all daySaturday, as all meals will be servedunder tents between the Reilly andRichter centers. Students should pick upa food wristband in the Reilly Centerlobby between 9 a.m. and noon Friday;students must have a wristband toreceive free food throughout the week-end. Faculty and staff are encouraged toattend Spring Weekend activities, andfood wristbands will be sold at the siteas well.

Thursday, April 27

4 p.m. — Rick Farina SoftballTournament begins

Friday, April 28

9 a.m.-noon — Students(undergraduate and graduate)should pick up a food wristband inthe RC lobby.

4-8 p.m. — Caricature artist,henna tattoo artist, music from theBUZZ, and inflatable games,including mechanical bull, obstaclecourse, 4-way bungee and basket-ball

4-7 p.m. — Softball games

4:30-8 p.m. — Food to beserved on outdoor basketballcourts; (Food is free to studentswith a wristband; Hickey DiningHall will be closed for dinner.) Thefollowing fair-style food is availableby purchasing tickets: nachos,fried dough, ice cream, cottoncandy and caramel apples.

5-8 p.m. — Live performanceby band Stop Seven

8 p.m. — SBU Step Show inRigas Family Theater, Regina A.Quick Center for the Arts: TheUniversity’s step team, SBUSteppers, will host the firstIntercollegiate Step Show. Doorsopen at 7:30 p.m. and the showbegins at 8 p.m. Step teams fromAlfred State College, CanisiusCollege and RensselaerPolytechnic Institute will partici-pate. The cost is $4 for students(with ID), $5 for the public, and $3for children (under 12).

Saturday, April 29

9 a.m. — Softball games begin

10 a.m. – 8 p.m. — Henna tat-too artist, music from the BUZZand inflatable games (mechanicalbull, obstacle course, 4-waybungee and basketball)

10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. — Freefood to students with wristband:hot dogs, hamburgers, French

fries, cookies, brownies and soda(Hickey Dining Hall will be closedall day.)

10:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. — Fair-style food available with pur-chased tickets.

Noon–7 p.m. — Live perform-ances

3–8 p.m. — Caricature artist

4:30-7:30 p.m. — Free food tostudents with wristband: Phillysteak sandwiches, chicken steaksandwiches, Italian sausage sand-wiches, French fries, cookies,brownies and soda

11 p.m. — Open Mic Night inShay/Loughlen Lobby

Friends of Good Music, in association with TheRegina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St.Bonaventure University, presents “Bill Easley, Jazz”at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, for its final concertof the 2005-2006 season.

Olean native Bill Easley returns to St.Bonaventure where he received its first Artist’sAward in 1997. Easley has had a diversified career,spanning more than 40 years. He has played in bandsled by such notables as Ruth Brown, George Benson,Jimmy McGriff, Bobby Short, Nicholas Payton,Charles McPhearson, Earl May, Illinois Jaquett andMercer Ellington among others.

In addition to his extensive discography as a side-man, he also has three recordings as a leader: “WindInventions,” “First Call” and “Easley Said.” Easley’scollection of woodwind instruments includes tenor,alto and soprano saxophones, clarinet and bass clar-inet, flute, alto flute and piccolo.

At age 13, Easley started playing professionallywith his parents in The Bob Easley Combo in andaround Olean. He moved to New York City in 1964to study at the Juilliard School of Music while get-ting his feet wet in the uptown Jazz scene. Easleyalso served in the military with the 9th Army Bandin Fairbanks, Alaska.

In 1968, Easley joined The George Benson

Quartet and traveled with thegreat guitarist for the remainderof the decade. He moved toMemphis in the 1970s, where heperformed and recorded withIsaac Hayes. He also continuedhis formal education at MemphisState University. In the mid-1970s, Easley toured with theDuke Ellington Orchestra underthe direction of Mercer Ellington.In 1980, he moved back to NewYork City to perform onBroadway. His Broadway creditsinclude: “Sophisticated Ladies,”“The Wiz,” “Black and Blue,”“Jelly’s Last Jam,” “Swingin OnA Star,” “Play On,” “Fosse,” and

most recently, “The Wild Party.”Easley has been part of the Jazz

Repertory Movement, playing inThe American Jazz Orchestra (John Lewis), theLincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (Wynton Marsalis),and The Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra (David Baker).For more about Easley, go to his Web site athttp://billeasley.net.
