On behalf of the Gisborne International Music Competition Charitable Trust I enclose an application to the Gisborne District Council to waive the cost of hiring the War Memorial Theatre for the 2017 Gisborne International Music Competition.

The Gisborne International Music Competition was conceived in the aftermath of the 1988 Cyclone Bola as both a positive event for the Gisborne community and one that would dispel wider perceptions that Gisborne was ruined. The inaugural competition was held in 1989.

The GIMC has evolved and grown since that time to gain international recognition for its high artistic standard and special character, and is a model for how an event of this type can promote resilience and pride in a once-broken community.

The event seeks to strengthen the economic growth of Gisborne by attracting visitors to the region and by promoting of Gisborne nationally and internationally as a place of high quality art, supported by a dynamic and successful community.

The cultural capital of Gisborne is equally enhanced by providing residents with no-cost access to world-class, live musical performance on a number of different platforms including competition recitals at the War Memorial Theatre, the outdoor Concert Under the Leaves and through community engagement activities at local primary and secondary schools and retirement homes.

The GIMC is an event passionately supported by the community and which contributes to make Gisborne a more positive, prosperous and attractive place to live. I hope the Gisborne District Council will be able to assist us in presenting the 2017 event.

In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal contr<;>l relevant to the entity's preparation and fair presentation of the performance report in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity's internal control. An audit also includes, evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the performance report.
