    1. Explain various fundamental reasons for implementing a Computer Aided Design

    System in Civil Engineering. [20]

    2. Explain with suitable illustrations the typical configuration of hardwarecomponents in Computer Aided Design System. [20]

    3. A line is defined by its end points A (0, 0) and B (3, 4) in a two dimensionalgraphics system. Express the line in matrix notation and perform the following

    transformations with A as the reference point. [20]

    a) Scale the line by a factor 3.0.b) Scale the original line by a factor 4.0 in x direction and 3.0 in the y

    direction.

    c) Translate the original line by 3.0 units in the x direction and 3.0 units inthe y direction.

    4. Using the displacement method, analyse the continuous beam given in Fig.1.

    Assume EI is constant through out the beam. [20]

    5. Using the stiffness method (displacement method) of analysis obtain the moments

    at the ends of members for the portal frame given in Fig. 2. Assume EI is constant

    through out the frame. [20]

    6. A simply supported beam of length L = 4m and constant EI supports aconcentrated load P = 50 kN at the centre of the beam. Using the Finite Difference

    Technique, calculate the maximum moment and deflections in the beam as shown
