December 15 ~ Third Sunday of Advent
Gaudete Sunday
Today’s second reading from the letter of Saint James is four verses that are packed with meaning and encouragement. The words “patient” or “patience” appear four times. The world will tell us that time is running out, so BUY NOW! The Church is telling us that Jesus will come whether the shopping is done or not, so patience! This week try to build in five minutes of quiet time each day to remember a loved one in prayer. That’s a gift we can all use, and it is priceless

From the Pastor
Peace be with you. Today is the third Sunday of Advent called “Gaudete Sunday” so we have the rose vestments and the rose candle. I know a lot of you call it pink, but I’m sticking with rose. It reminds us to “rejoice”! This time of year can be especially difficult for some people. There are so many families enjoying the lights and trees and the festivities and yet there are also those that feel particularly alone and those that intensely miss their de-ceased loved ones. Gaudete Sunday is a reminder therefore that all can rejoice that God is with us. He came to be with us in our joys and sorrows, happiness and pain. As Jesus never stopped noticing and reflecting on those on the margins of his time (the widows, lepers, blind beggars, even public sinners) our God has not for-gotten about any of you. Remember this Gaudete Sunday, that Christmas is for everyone, not just happy families, even if you feel all alone and sad this time of year. Make it a goal to be observant this Christmas, even if you want to keep your head down and ignore the crowds, seek a special sign from God, pray that God allows you to rejoice. Next Sunday is the Sunday we are asking you to bring the Christ child (known as the “Bambino”) from your home creche and we will bless them at Mass. Last year we did it only at the 9:00 but it was such a big hit we decided to do it at every Mass. We are doing it because it shows the connection between your parish and your home. If we only prayed at Church we would be serving ourselves very short. Prayer is a lifeline and your way to serve God and to be happy. We certainly don’t want Christmas to be only religious in Church and not in our homes. I hope the Christmas creche is displayed prominently in your homes and that just as it is a tradition to hang the bulbs on the tree, it is just as prominent a tradition to put the bambino in the crib on Christmas Day. But wait - how are you possibly going to remember to bring it??? So many people came to Mass last year slapping their heads and saying how they put it aside but forgot it. Don’t do that. Put it with your Sunday shoes, put it in your purse early, put it by the door. If it can stand the cold, put it in the car the night be-fore. Set your alarm on your phone with “Away In A Manger” as the alarm song. Put a sign on the refrigera-tor. Tell your youngest child not to talk about it (reverse psychology). Put it in your gloves. Don’t forget. Oh, and don’t have your kid drop it and break it on the way to Mass - that happened last year too. Blessings on you and your families, Bishop Mark

Affirming Life Quote
GALATIANS 1: 15
"But the time came when He who had set me apart before I was born and called me by his favor chose to reveal his Son to me, that I might spread among the Gentiles the good tidings concerning Him."
Please join us following the 9 and 11 am Masses in recitation of the Pro-Life Rosary for the sanctity of Human Life, from conception to natural death. Our Blessed Mother Mary has said that the one true weapon against all evil especially abortion is the rosary.
Thank you for your prayers.
Bambinelli Sunday, December 21 & 22
This is a beautiful Advent tradition, one that sanctifies the home with the baby Jesus and makes his arrival in the manger scene an even more joyous event.
Pope St. John Paul II, during his papacy, instituted the celebration of Bambinelli Sunday. This is a day when the children – old and young – bring the statue of the Baby Jesus from their home Nativity scene to Mass to be blessed.
Bishop Mark and Fr. Reilly will bless your figurine at the weekend Masses of December 21 and 22.

Happy Third Sunday of Advent It’s hard to believe that we are only 10 days away from Christmas! Did you notice the rose colored vestments in church this morning? The Third Sunday of Advent is also called Gaudete Sunday (gaudete means rejoice in Latin). I hope you are able to find some quiet time amidst this busy season to thank God for your many blessings and to ask for strength in the year ahead.
Faith Formation Classes Resume in January

Snow Cancellations of Faith Formation Classes (Gr 1 – 8)
Now that snow season is upon us, I want to let you know how I communicate class cancellations in the event of bad weather. If classes have to be cancelled, I will post a note on the main St. Theresa webpage (www.sttheresanreading.org). I will also email the families of the students in the classes that were cancelled. If the weather is questionable and classes are not cancelled, please use your judgment in deciding if it is safe to bring your student(s) to class. In the event that classes are cancelled, we would appreciate you reading the assigned chapter with your student(s) at home. Let’s pray for good weather this winter!
