y name is Zane Wilson and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new Membership Director of Beau Chêne

Country Club. I am delighted to be a part of the Beau Chêne community and look forward to meeting each and every one of you!

A few things to know about me: I am originally from Birmingham, Alabama. I may not be a New Orleans native, but I consider myself to be a true New Orleanian. My mom is originally from here, and I grew up visiting my grandmother often. I also cannot get enough of Louisiana cuisine; jazz music always makes me feel like dancing; I am a huge fan of ‘dem Saints (we’re going to the Super Bowl next year, and I refuse to

believe I’m jinxing our chances by saying so); and I never miss an opportunity to go to one of our numerous festivals. Call me Cajun ;) In my free time, I enjoy volunteering with the Junior League of New Orleans and the American Cancer Society and traveling and speaking Spanish. My office is on the left when you walk into the main clubhouse entry. Don’t be a stranger; my door is always open. Please feel free to come by, and if the occasion presents itself, bring in a prospective member or two so I can help introduce them to our Beau Chêne Country Club resort lifestyle!

*Don’t forget to mark your calendars on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, when Beau Chêne Country Club will be hosting a Mardi Gras dinner buffet, 5-8 pm.

Now, that is a busy month of March at your Beau Chêne Country Club, complete with everything from Fitness to Tennis to Golf to Food, Beverage and Social!

Upcoming: Due to the timing of the 2019 APT/WAPT Tournament (April 15th – 20th), we have scheduled Breakfast with Bunny and the Easter Egg Hunts for Saturday, April 13th and naturally, the Easter Sunday Brunch Buffet Feast is on Easter Sunday, April 21st. The Beau Chêne Homeowners Association has scheduled a concert in the Pavilion featuring the music of “Sugar Bomb” on Saturday, April 27th. Staff Announcements: Last month, we congratulated two deserving management team members who moved on to career opportunities. This month, we are blessed to introduce two outstanding additions to our management team: Zane Wilson, our new Membership Director (see page 2 for more information) and Darlene Saucier, our new Childcare Director (see page 8 for more information). I know you will join me in welcoming Zane and Darlene to the Beau Chêne family!

or the Northshore, the month of March ushers in Mardi Gras festivities, the end of Daylight Savings, springtime activities,

favorable weather (let’s hope!) and a jam-packed calendar at Beau Chêne Country Club!

Nothing welcomes the Spring season in our region like Mardi Gras (Tuesday, March 5th) and BCCC will be serving up a regional and traditional Buffet Dinner from 5 to 8pm. Celebrate the evening attired in your green, gold and purple…and plenty of beads.

The kids are out of school all week and the very next day is Ash Wednesday, March 6th when we will be serving up a mouth-watering Family Dinner Buffet with BINGO featuring a Crawfish Boil, Fried Chicken and more – a real family friendly event! Reservations please. The Family Dinner Buffet will be served every Wednesday in the month with a second BINGO Night on Wednesday, March 20th!

Daylight Savings begins as of Sunday morning, March 10th. Please remember to “spring forward” with your clocks, especially the golfers who will be playing in the BCCC Men’s Golf Association Kick-Off Bash which will be held March 8th – 10th. They begin with a Players Draft Party on Friday, March 8th from 6 to 7pm in the Ballroom. Play begins with an 8:30am shotgun start on Saturday, March 9th on the Oak Course and resumes on Sunday, March 10th with a shotgun start at 8:30am on the Magnolia Course. Lunch will be served following play as prizes are awarded. Sign up in the Pro Shop.

The change in time also increases our operating times for your enjoyment. The Clubhouse and Golf Shop closes at 6pm on Sundays and Tuesdays (instead of 5pm), while the driving range closes at 6pm Tuesday – Saturday. Note: The range closes at 5pm on Sundays.

Beau Chêne Country Club 2019 Couples Golf Schedule Kicks off

he Business First Bank Golf Classic returns professional golf to Beau Chêne Country Club again this year. This is an opportunity to

see future PGA & LPGA Tour Members and hopefully future stars play our Oak & Magnolia Golf Courses. This year’s tournament will be held April 15th - 20th, with both a Men’s Division & a Women's Division.

As a benefit for being a member at Beau Chêne Country Club there are so many opportunities to get involved and support the APT & WAPT Tours, Players, and your Club as well.

A) Participate in Business First Bank Classic PRO-AM on Tuesday April 16th! With your Pro-Am Sponsorship, this allows you three players into the Pro-Am with one of the top money winners from the APT Tour. You will also receive a Hole-Advertisement Sign, plus a Scotty Cameron Putter.

B) Volunteers are needed Wednesday, April 17th - Saturday April 20th, as

starters, scoring checkpoints, live scoring (Fri & Sat only), spotters, scoring tents. I’m very happy Mary Capouch has agreed to again be our Volunteer Chairperson. She did a wonderful job last year, but she needs your help! Please contact Mary at 985-789-0720, it’s a volunteer job that you will enjoy.

C) The players that commit to the Business First Bank Classic are so fortunate that we have such a generous membership that open their homes for private housing. Mary Pitts will again serve as the tournament’s Private Housing Chairperson. Mary was amazing last year; she was able to find housing for every player that requested housing. She cannot do this without your help, so please contact Mary Pitts at 985-630-3978 if you can house a young man or lady into your home for a few days.

D) We are creating our own “PARTY HOLE” on #16 Oak for this year’s Business First Bank Classic. This will be a great spectator area, with food & drinks.

Tennis Newsby John Ballard, Tennis Director

S pring is here...or it is really close!!! March and April can be two of the best months of the year for tennis on

the Northshore and we have a lot going on here at the Club!

First of all, I am excited to announce that our first tennis mixer is taking place this month. Our Spring and Strings Tennis Social is scheduled for Saturday March 16th and has been a a really fun event with great people, food, cold beverages and tennis! It will be a Saturday evening event with complimentary childcare available for fitness members. If that sounds like fun, call or stop by the tennis desk and sign up! Be on the lookout to sign up for our Crawfish Mixer April 13th. Don’t wait too long to sign up for either of these events because there are limited spots available.

Free Beginner/begin again clinics are starting up every Thursday morning in the month of March from 9-10am. (BCCC No.3506). These are a really fun way to see what all your friends are talking about or jump back into tennis after having not played for a few years. There are only 8 spots available so please call the tennis desk to get in on the action.

I would also like to mention our Junior Program to parents and grandparents of kids 10 and under. We have recently moved kids up in groups due to age and ability level leaving our 10&under programs smaller at the moment. This is a great opportunity to get your kids started playing tennis the right way without them feeling like they are behind on their first clinic. The previous group of kids have moved up due to participation in clinics as well as the benefits of learning to play matches in Coach Oscar’s Beau Chêne Junior League. Our Junior Program offers a good pathway for playing tournaments, playing tennis for high school teams, or just getting the skills necessary to enjoy tennis, the sport of a lifetime. Come give our Junior Program a try...this is the perfect time!

If you have any questions regarding adult tennis, junior tennis, clinics, lessons, racquet questions, etc. please come bring them to me! I so enjoy serving our membership and want to continue getting people plugged into our tennis program. As always please feel free to call or stop by the tennis desk we would love to take care of you! See you on the courts!

Monday Night Tennis going away party for Carlos Gonzalez. It’s a tough loss for us but we are happy for Carlos and his family.

John Nichols in true Wimbledon fashion presenting Carlos Gonzalez the GOAT trophy! Carlos played in 432 Monday Night Sessions.

I’m pleased to highlight a young couple for our Fitness Members of the Month, Courtney and Kyle Gulledge. Fairly new to the Club, the Gulledges moved to Beau Chêne in August and immediately joined the Fitness Center. Courtney started going to the Power Yoga class and gradually added more classes to her routine, while Kyle religiously goes to the gym. It’s exciting to see couples enjoying their workout at the Fitness Center and we are very happy to be able to accommodate both of them.

How long have you been Beau Chêne Fitness Members? We joined in August when we moved to Beau Chêne. Have you always been into fitness? Courtney: Not really, I don’t mind working out but I can’t say I have ever enjoyed it. Kyle definitely encourages me. Kyle: Yes, since I joined the military in 2002. What made you decide to join Beau Chêne Fitness Center? We like the convenience of having a gym in our neighborhood that also comes with

classes and childcare comparable to what we were paying at our previous gym. Do you take classes? Courtney: Yes, I first started taking Stephanie’s Power Yoga classes and fell in love. I more recently added Power Pump and Barre classes. Kyle: No, I use the gym. How often do you work-out? What motivates you?

Courtney: Kyle being disciplined and staying in shape is motivating for me but I think the older I get the more I realize I need it. I try to take 3 classes a week. Kyle: My goal is 5 days a week. I enjoy working out and the results are motivating enough for me.

How important is nutrition to you? Do you follow any specific diet? We have never followed any specific diet but we have always been conscious of what we eat. We try to eat foods that are high in protein and fiber while minimizing our sodium intake.

How do you feel incorporating fitness into your lifestyle has helped in other ways besides physically? Courtney: In yoga especially, it has helped create a time and space for me to disconnect from the distractions of everyday life. I am starting to like working out more. Kyle: It has helped build confidence Why do you think residents should be Fitness Members at Beau Chêne? Beau Chêne is really making a great effort to

Psychology from Kent State University and have resided in Mandeville for the last 19 years with my loving husband and two beautiful daughters.

I have spent the past 18 years working with children in my church nursery and preschool beginning as a nursery worker; soon becoming the Nursery Director and eventually I was asked to assume the role of the Business Administrator. Over the years, I have come to appreciate my love of watching and helping the little ones in our community learn and grow. I am so excited to be starting this new journey

at Beau Chêne Country Club as its Childcare Director. We cannot wait for you all to see what we have in store for your little ones!

This month – in addition to Friday Night Sitter Service – we will be offering Sitter service from 5 to 8pm for the Spring & Strings Tennis Social on Saturday, March 16th; again from 6 to 10pm on Saturday, March 23rd for the Ketcham Gourmet Wine Dinner and then again from 6pm – 10pm for the Geaux Cup Party on Saturday, March 30th. Make your reservations early due to the limited capacity. Costs are $12/hour for one child and $15/hour for 2 or more children in a family.

Chef’s Notesby Executive Chef, David Ramey

ardi Gras is here and Spring is just days away! To Celebrate Fat Tuesday (March 5th) come out

and enjoy our traditional Mardi Gras Buffet. We are going to fill you up with all of your buffet favorites! See the menu on the back cover of this newsletter.

This Ash Wednesday (March 6th) be sure to make your reservations for a Bountiful Crawfish Boil! Fresh Crawfish expertly boiled with just the right amount of spice; along with some Fried Chicken too! This spread will include multiple salads to cool you down and kids’ items for those little ones that aren’t so into the Mud Bugs yet.

Make your reservations promptly for Friday, March 15th’s Dinner and a show with Bon Operatit- When Irish Eyes Are Smiling. We have put together a three-course dining experience for you to enjoy while being serenaded by the beautiful Bon Operatit Crew. This event is sure to pack the house!

Even though St. Patrick’s Day is on Sunday, the 17th this year, we will be celebrating throughout the weekend. On Friday, the 15th and Saturday, the 16th enjoy our Slow Cooked Corn

Beef Special at lunch or dinner. May you have the great fortune and find that elusive four-leafed shamrock or better yet, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Our Wednesday Night Family Buffets have been pleasing all who attend with different “themes” each week. As always, we will have Fried Chicken available every Family Night and plenty of choices for the kiddos. Mark your calendar for Bingo Nights on the 6th and the 20th.

We have a Gourmet Wine Dinner treat for us all on Saturday, March 23rd. Ketchum Estate Winery has reached out to us and we could not pass up the opportunity to collaborate with them. The excitement of enjoying their expertly produced wines from the Russian River Valley inspired us to create a one of a kind five-course wine pairing dining experience. This is a meal to make even a Chef jealous!

We hope to see you soon with this beautiful and bountiful season that is about to unfold. Cheers!David RameyProud Beau Chêne Country Club Executive Chef

Golf Course Newsby Ted Smith, Director of Agronomy

his winter has been one of the wettest in recent memory. During periods of extreme wetness, minimal sunlight, high humidity,

and fluctuating temperatures, the greens can be inundated by a multitude of stresses. These stresses include both abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living) factors. A few abiotic problems that affect turf during winter months are shade, poor drainage, desiccation, compaction, nutrient deficiency and excess traffic wear. The major biotic stresses that affect turf are fungi, insects and soil-born parasitic nematodes. To combat Mother Nature’s constant bombardment, we monitor all of the greens on a daily basis by checking moisture, scouting for disease and insects, and limiting traffic from mowers and rollers. To keep the greens dense, healthy and rolling smooth, we spray them weekly with essential macronutrients (including Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphorus, Calcium, Magnesium and Sulfur) and micronutrients (Iron, Manganese, Zinc, and Molybdenum). We also feed the greens with a liquid amino acid package that combats low light intensity by increasing nitrogen fixation and the production of chlorophyll, energy, and anti-stress compounds. As with your own body, feeding the greens with the correct balance of nutrients is the best way to fight off disease. This philosophy has allowed us to utilize less fungicides and we are able to maintain smoother, faster greens on a consistent basis year-round. Last month, we completed the renovation of the greenside bunkers on #10, #11 and #7 of the Magnolia Course. We reshaped all three bunkers to minimize washouts and prevent contamination of the sand from the subsurface soil. We also installed new drainage and sand in both. In an effort to provide better irrigation coverage to #10 green and to keep the approach and surrounds more firm, all four sprinkler heads were moved closer to the putting surface. Currently, we are in the process

T of renovating the greenside bunker on #14 of the Magnolia Course. As soon as this bunker is complete, we will focus on renovating the greenside bunker on #3 and the back greenside bunker on #4 of the Magnolia Course.

The Magnolia Course will be closed Tuesday, March 12th through Thursday, March 14th. We will use these days to needle tine, top-dress and fertilize greens and to complete our scheduled bunker renovations.

As a friendly reminder, please adhere to daily cart rulings, remember to repair ball marks on greens and fill your divots with sand. Following these rules and practicing proper course etiquette will go a long way in helping us maintain course conditions. If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email to [email protected]. Best regards,Ted Smith, Director of Agronomy

cater to everyone with the different classes, the schedules of the classes and improving the gym upstairs. Having it all right here, where our daughter can practice tennis and our son can be at childcare has made all the difference for us with our busy schedules. Any advice you can offer for taking that first step? Courtney: I was nervous about the classes at first, but really all the instructors are encouraging and make you feel very comfortable. Find someone to go with you or talk to Mary to find a class that is right for you. Kyle: I was hesitant about the Beau Chêne gym after coming from a bigger corporate gym that had more to offer. I was worried I would not get all I needed but after talking to Mary, Beau Chêne has since added more weights and equipment to improve – all for its members. If there is something you need or a class you would like that isn’t offered, ask. Find the reasons you should be in a fitness program and use that as motivation. How can couples keep each other motivated?Courtney: It is easier when you both do it – either together or separate. For us, it has been about making it work for both of our schedules and the kids being in pocket. As with anything in a relationship, it is a give and a take. Support each other. Kyle: Temper your results and give positive feedback to each other. We both want each other to be around for a long time so we make it work for both of us - you can too.
