know your power . . .because with knowledge comes control.

    ApplicationsVFD Controlled Loads

VFD output indicates how the motor and attached load are operating.

SCR Controlled LoadsAccurate measurement of phase angle fired or burst fired (time proportioned)SCRs. Current measurement gives faster response than temperaturemeasurement.

Switching Power Supplies and Electronic BallastsTrue RMS sensing is the most accurate way to measure power supply or ballastinput power.

    True RMS AC Current Transducers

    Features■ True RMS Output

True RMS technology is accurate ondistorted waveforms like VFD or SCRoutputs.

    ■ Jumper Selectable Ranges— Reduces inventory.— Eliminates zero and span pots.

    ■ Isolation— Output is magnetically isolated

from the input for safety.— Eliminates insertion loss

    (voltage drop).

    ■ UL, CUL and CE ApprovalAccepted worldwide.

    True RMS AC Current Transducers

    ATR SeriesSelecting the right transducer:

VFD and SCR output waveforms arerough approximations of a sine wave. There are numerous spikes and dips ineach cycle. ATR transducers use amathematical algorithm called “TrueRMS,” which integrates the actualwaveform over time. The output is theamperage component of the true power(heating value) of the AC currentwaveform. True RMS is the only way toaccurately measure distorted ACwaveforms. Select ATR transducers fornonlinear loads or in “noisy” powerenvironments.

The current waveform of a typical linearload is a pure sine wave. AT transducersmeasure the peaks of these sine waves, then calculate the average amperage. This works well on constant speedlinear loads in a “clean” powerenvironment. Select AT transducers forstrictly linear loads on “clean” power.

‘ATR’ transducers from NK Technologies combine a currenttransformer and a True RMS signal conditioner into a single package. The ATR Series provides True RMS output on distorted waveformsfound on VFD or SCR outputs and on linear loads in “noisy” powerenvironments. Available in a solid or split core case.

Selecting the right transducer:The current waveform of a typical linearload is a pure sine wave. AT transducersmeasure the peaks of these sine waves, then calculate the average amperage. This works well on constant speedlinear loads in a “clean” powerenvironment. Select AT transducers forstrictly linear loads on “clean” power.

Select ATR transducers fornonlinear loads on “noisy” power.

Regulatory ApprovalMeet requirements by industry groups and governments for Ground FaultProtection.

Operating Principal: Under normalconditions, the current in the hot legof a two-wire load is equal in strengthbut opposite in sign to the current inthe neutral leg. These two currentscreate magnetic fields that are alsoequal but opposite. When the wires arenext to each other, the fields cancel, producing a “Zero Sum Current”. If anycurrent leaks to ground from one wire(Ground Fault), the two currentsbecome imbalanced and the result is anet magnetic flux or field. AG Seriesground fault sensors monitor this fieldand alarm when leakage rises abovesetpoint. This concept applies togrounded 3-phase delta and wye systems.
