    STEWARDSHIP

“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” (Matthew 25:13)

Many of us have put off doing something because we think we are too busy. We have all said, “I will do it later when I have time.” Unfortunately, too many of us apply this attitude to our Faith. Jesus’ call is urgent, in the here and now, in your current circumstances. Do not delay. How is God calling you to use your gifts today? None of us is guaranteed tomorrow.

"Know also that you will probably gain more by praying fifteen minutes before the Blessed Sacrament than by all the other spiritual exercises of the day. True, Our Lord hears our prayers anywhere, for He has made the promise, 'Ask, and you shall receive,' but He has revealed to His servants that those who visit Him in the Blessed Sacrament will obtain a more abundant measure of grace."

ST. MARY’S FOOD KITCHEN November 13, Before 9:00AM

Drop Off by St. John Rm. Hallway Entrance

We need your help!! Due to the COVID-19 virus, St. Mary's Food Kitchen has discontinued their hot meal service for the homeless in our communities. In lieu of the hot dinner, sack lunches are being distributed to the hungry to take with them. How can you help? We are looking for 15 individuals who are willing to commit to making 15 sack lunches. This will entail shopping for food items, preparing the sandwiches, assembling and delivering completed sack lunches to the hallway located outside of the St. John Room no later than 9:00am, November 13. A driver(s) will deliver the lunches to the food kitchen for further disbursement. To volunteer or for further information, please call Dee Winters at 913-681-6112. Suggested lunch items are as follows: bread of any kind (except bread that is very dark or heavily seeded), ham, roast beef, chicken, turkey, lunch meat, cheeses, lunch size potato chips, fruit or pudding cups (please include a spoon and napkin), apples, oranges (no soft fruits that are easily crushed), protein bars, packaged cookies or brownies, etc. Other creative ideas are certainly welcomed! Since paper tears easily, it is suggested that you use new one gallon Ziploc baggies to assemble these lunches. Please include a 12-16 ounce bottle of water (room temperature) in each bag. Please no peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, soft fruits or fresh vegetables. You are welcome to save your grocery receipts and present them to the parish office for reimbursement at a later date. Thank you so much and may God bless you!

DRIVE UP FOOD COLLECTION November 14, 10:00AM-2:00PM

Just pull your car up and “pop” the trunk and our volunteers will take your food donations and load them into the truck! Not currently shopping? No worries, we gladly accept check and cash donations. Thank you so much for your generosity! The items needed most continue to be macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, pancake mix, spaghetti sauce, pasta, rice, canned meat, canned tomatoes, canned black beans, canned tomato soup, canned tuna, canned peas and canned fruit. WEEKLY PRAYER

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time Getting to Know You At the end of today's Gospel, when the foolish virgins return from the quick shop with the oil, they are locked out of the wedding. The groom answers their pleas, not with a question, "Why weren't you ready?" but with the statement, "I don't know you" (Mt 25:12). Now that sounds kind of odd, if the bridegroom represents the LORD, because God knows everything, and everybody. In Matthew's Gospel, this phrase seems to imply that "because you made no effort to know me, I don't know you." In other words, the oil in the parable stands for knowing the LORD. Or at least making an effort to know him. So what am I doing to get to know Jesus? One way to know someone is to act like them. Actors who portray a real person try to watch videos of that person to see how they talk, walk, relate to people, what kind of posture they have, how they dress, etc. We can act like Jesus by following his example of care for the poor and the sick, forgiving people who have done wrong, teaching people about God's love, feeding the hungry, and giving God the credit for what we do. Another way to get to know someone is to talk to them. The more we pray, the more we get close to Jesus. We can praise God for Creation, we can thank God for all the giving (and forgiving!) We can ask for help for those we love and for God's strength in our weakness (2 Cor 12:9). But we don't get to know someone if we do all the talking. Our prayer can include time to be quiet and listen to the LORD. We also listen to God by reading God's words in the Bible. And God can speak to some people in art, song, or poetry. The advice and wisdom of friends and relatives can also be God speaking to us. Hopefully, we can all find ways of getting to know the Lord, so that God can "recognize" us as friends.

    RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY Love Lost

For a frightened vulnerable woman in need of care and support, the abortion industry offers false comfort. It leads her to believe her only hope for happiness is to end the life of her unborn child. Consequently, abortion serves to separate a mother not only from her precious child, but also from the love and comfort of that child. We know, from the thousands of pregnancy care center across the country offering help to women at no cost, that this separation of the mother from her child is fueled by lies.

Yet the serious divisions brought about by abortion do not end following the abortion. Abortion, having separated the mother from her child, also diminishes the amount of love in the world. Why? Because every child—no matter how tiny or fragile—brings with it love into the world. Every life lost to abortion is love lost to our world –a world so in need of love.
