Spring is Here! Really?!? At least on the calendar it is. So, just because it is still cold most of the time and raining more than normal, it really is still Spring! The events still will happen that normally do in the Springtime. The kickoff is the Chamber’s Downtown Block Party in June, followed by the Annual Rock-hound’s PowWow at the Fairgrounds. Then, the big 4th of July Celebration in Sahalee Park. Of course, the long awaited, once in a lifetime event will happen on August 21st, in our area. This will be bringing an influx of hundreds of visitors here to view the Total Solar Eclipse of 2017. Our residents in Jefferson County will be hosting guests from all over the world for this amazing event. Meetings have been happening for the last couple of years regularly to make plans for this phenomenon of nature to happen. It takes all of us helping out in our community events that make them successful and fun for the family to enjoy. There is so many different areas that help is needed; with each individual’s unique passions, I know you would be an attribute. Please find your niche and say, “How can I Help?” We want to make our guests and participants in the events feel welcome at everything we present. Have a Great Spring!

Flowers, Farms, Flasks, Herbs, Sprouts, Water, Beer and Beef. And throw in some

Vegetables. All of them have some common element in our lives and they are part of our

agricultural industry surrounding us. An industry vital to our economic vitality of Jefferson

County utilizing natural resources starting with dirt and water to produce products that

ultimately ends up on our tables.

A group of volunteers consisting of community food leaders, farmers and agricultural

businesses have established the High Desert Educational Agricultural Tours (HD EAT’s)

annual farm tours. This is the second year of the tours which has received a large assistance from the High

Desert Food and Farm Alliance.

Take time and check out the HD EAT’s flyer included in the Chamber newsletter for the upcoming tours

this year. Commit a Saturday and join the many others on a focused tour and learn what we grow locally,

meet the local grower, rancher or processor and experience what is behind the products we enjoy on a

regular basis. You will hear of generational history, family stories and what it takes to be a productive and

profitable business in rural America.

If possible include your children and grandchildren. This is a great medium to learn by interacting

directly with the presenters and seeing up close what locally produced really means and appreciate the

responsible use of natural resources.

HD EAT’s is one of many things happening in May. Check out the other flyers and use the Madras-JC

Chamber Website calendar to stay informed on what is going on in your community and Jefferson County.

Congratulations to Tom & Janet Brown of Madras for the lucky draw of the Mystery Camera Clip in the April Newsletter. Good Luck to you in your quest of finding the Mystery Clip in this month’s issue.
