The Competition Continues To Grow and ProsperWith 16 years under our belt, it’s no surprise that we take pride in the work we do with all that is wine. Last year alone we had over 25 states competing from across America and our judges scrutinized 6,417 entries ranging from light and fragrant to rich and powerful. The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC) is one of the industry’s most respected, and highly publicized, wine competitions in the country. It has become a platform for larger and boutique wineries alike to showcase their wines

on a national scale in order to land at the top 10% of quality wines in the country. The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC) is taking this opportunity to issue a “Call for Entries” for its 2016 competition. Entries will be accepted from now until the end of November and will be evaluated the first week of January. The SFCWC uses a unique collaborative style of judging as it evaluates thousands of entries from around the country by judges from across the United States. In cooperation with Northern California’s largest newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle and SFGate.com, the SFCWC will provide heightened exposure to the award winning wineries in 2016. Sponsorships for the competition includes KGO-AM 810, NBC TV and Wine & Spirits Magazine which will be a major returning sponsor that will publish a full page spread of award winning wines. The Larose Group, our public relations agency, will increase wine award exposure through additional media outlets including print, radio, websites, blogs, social media and various other platforms throughout the country. After the judging is complete, we bring our judges’ knowledge and the opportunity to taste these delicious wines to consumers at the Public Tasting and Food Pairing at Fort Mason Center, Saturday, February 13, 2016.We believe that this competition is a true barometer that consumers can use to educate themselves and measure premium wines. Thank you for your participation and good luck.

PUBLIC TASTING IN SAN FRANCISCO SHOWCASES WINES PEOPLE LIKE TO DRINK

Each year the Public Tasting highlights the winning wines from the competition at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. It is home to some of the most exceptional food and wine in the country and many discerning palates. The SFCWC urges Americans to join them in celebrating 16 successful years for the Competition. The annual Public Tasting is more than a wine tasting it is a food and wine pairing and a time for friends and family to gather and enjoy a gastronomical event. Don’t miss the fun on Saturday, February 13th from 1:30-5 p.m.

“It’s really good on a judging panel to have people who know wines from different perspectives,” says Paul Lukacs. “This competition is the biggest deal in American wine.”

SAN FRANCISCO WINE COMPETITION FOCUSES ON EDUCATION

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is an annual fundraiser that supports wine studies, enology, and viticulture programs for higher education institutions in California. Leftover wines from the competition are donated annually to Santa Rosa Junior College, Fresno State University, Sonoma State University, and California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.

“Judging here is a professional highlight!” says Andy Perdue. “And winning gold here can really make a winery’s reputation.”

KGO 810 IS A PROUD SPONSOR OF THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE WINE COMPETITION PUBLIC TASTING

Each year, the Bay Area’s News & Information Station, KGO 810 features judges and winning wineries as a sponsor of the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition to over half a million listeners reaching from Oregon to Southern California.Don’t miss the Public Tasting Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

This commemorative plaque is designed to be displayed in tasting rooms, restaurants or offices, and it’s another way to showcase your passion and success.

Wineries can access information and sign up at www.winejudging.com.

Education, Innovation and

Sophistication are all Programs

that Benefit Participating Wineries THE LARGEST COMPETITION OF AMERICAN WINES IN THE WORLD Celebrates 16 Years of Continued Success

We are wine lovers and for the past 16 years we have acknowledged the wineries whose passion and ingenuity are continually reshaping the wine industry, and we believe that every wine has a story. Wine makers and owners alike bring their innovative-thinking and vision to enhance enology and viticulture. Just as they seek

to raise the quality of their wines, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, which is the largest competition of American wines in the world, has provided a platform that allows wineries both big and small to present their new wine vintages to the consuming public.

The first competition of the year, the 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is uniquely designed to bring together the most distinguished judges in the country to compare wines in multiple price ranges and varieties to determine the best of the best in each category that appeal to everyone from a college student to a sommelier. The largest competition of American wines in the world has created a win-win situation for every palate. An elite group of individuals from media, trade, educators, restaurant and hospitality industries (including wine buyers and winemakers), from New York to California and everywhere in between come together for an intensive week-long judging session. When the judging is over, wine drinkers know what they like and vintners know their efforts have not gone unrewarded.

According to JON BONNÉ, WINE EDITOR, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, “A gold medal or higher at this competition is a home run for a winery.”

For 16 years the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC), formerly the Cloverdale Citrus Fair Wine Competition, has continued to grow and redefine itself in response to the rapidly changing needs of the wine industry and discerning consumers. Each year a carefully selected group of influential judges gather together in small groups to taste and evaluate the top wines in the country. Last year the judges scrutinized over 6,417 wines from budget to exclusive categories.

MARKETING THE WINNING WINERIES CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

The winning wines and wineries are featured in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Wine Awards Special Section, and online at SFGate.com in February to a readership of more than 1.7 million. In addition, the wineries are also featured in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and in other media outlets and websites across the country. Throughout 2016 and 2017 the SFCWC will continue to feature all medal-winning wines at sfgate.com, winejudging.com, and other wine related media outlets in addition to numerous press releases which

are distributed throughout the country on the award-winning wines and wine makers. All information is sent nationally to newspapers, magazines, television, radio stations, and wine associations, as well as Facebook postings, twitter feeds, blogs and other social networking outlets.

According to Jessica Altieri, CEO, WineChannelTV, Chicago, IL “The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

represents all that is good in the world of wine today; a ‘Super Bowl’ like opportunity for wine brands and wine makers, small and large, to present their wines to a ‘tasting palate’ of judges that are second to none!”

All gold and silver medal winners will receive plaques for prominent display at the tasting and will enable wineries to have selected wines stand out at other events.

Wilfred Wong, Cellarmaster, Beverages & More! says, “This is the first competition of the year and the most important in the judging calendar.
