Best Working Bee Ever!
Many thanks to Nicky Fardon for organising such a great
working bee last Sunday. Inside the newsletter I have listed
the helpers who came armed with shovels, wheelbarrows,
mattocks, brooms and other tools to help get our school looking spic and span! This terrific team achieved a lot in
just a few hours. A short shower of drenching rain did not
dampen spirits and the results of teamwork will be evident
for a long time – the school grounds look great!
Thanks to Kincumber Hire for supplying a stump grinder
free of charge to help. With the old tree stump and
playground equipment foundations gone, there is a blank canvas ready for brand new playground equipment to be
installed and four new sandpits!
We enjoyed a welcome sausage sizzle at the end and our
thanks go to the Bendigo Bank at Kincumber for donating $100 to purchase sausages, bread and drinks for the BBQ.
A band of helpful kids also enjoyed the day riding their
bikes and scooters around the school.
Class placements for 2012
Teachers are writing reports over the next few weeks and will be planning classes for 2012. All class placements at
Kincumber Public School are made taking into account such
factors as:
Number of students
Gender balance
Requests by parents or teachers for placement in a
certain class The placement of students with special needs
Friendship groups
While this list is not intended to be exhaustive, other factors may be considered by school executive when placing
students into classes. By the end of the year we should
have tentatively placed all children in classes, allocated staff
and identified classrooms. I hope to be able to provide you with that information by Friday 9 December. Whenever
possible and practicable, and where a student may benefit
from a move, a child may change classes at the request of a
parent or school executive. The move should not compromise school organisation nor disadvantage other
students. Most class moves will take place at the beginning
of the school year when numbers are likely to change.
After class numbers are finalised we would anticipate few
moves. All requests from parents should be directed to the Principal in writing.
Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER)
In the last week of Term 2, Stage 3 travelled to Canberra for their Government/Civics and Citizenship excursion. The
purpose of this excursion was to provide on-site learning
about national democratic, historical and cultural
institutions. These included: Parliament House (participating in a Parliamentary Education Office Program and meeting
their local Member), The Australian War Memorial and The
National Museum of Australia.
The Australian Government supports these excursions
through the PACER contribution which is a subsidy that is
paid directly to schools. The aim of this Government
initiative is to reduce the cost of the excursion for individual
students living further than 150 kilometres from Canberra.
End of year activities
Teachers are currently organising end of year activities that
may include a trip to the movies for some stages. Mums and dads – what a great opportunity for the kids to earn
some pocket money by doing extra jobs to pay for their
outing!

Uniforms and behaviour
I am very appreciative of the attention that many
parents have given to ensuring their children are wearing appropriate school shoes and hats. Safety and
pride in presentation are our priorities and an
improvement is very evident – thank you.
Stage 3 students received a separate note about the importance of maintaining excellent levels of behaviour
and the wearing of uniform in the lead up to extra-
curricular activities, including end of year parties and the
Year 6 Farewell. Attendance at the farewell will be by invitation only and students must continue to
demonstrate the highest standards of dress and conduct
to receive an invitation.
Catering for academically talented students
At Kincumber Public School we are committed to helping
every child achieve their best, across many fields of
endeavour – hence our school motto!
One way we cater for children who are academically
capable is by grouping children in classes where
curriculum extension is targeted. Over the years many
children from these classes have gained entry to selective high schools and opportunity classes (OC)
through their respective testing programs.
Most recently Ollie Butcher and Summer Lloyd-Johnson were successful in securing places in the OC class at
Gosford Public School for Years 5 & 6. Ollie and Summer
join Monique Pym, Anna Corby, Carys Campbell, Murray
Southall, Conor O’Dwyer and Nicholas Duell-Ferguson who will attend Gosford Selective High School in Year 7
2012. Congratulations to these students and thank you
to their teachers.
Hope you had a great week at our great school!

Changes to student enrolments for 2012 We are currently setting up classes for 2012 and need to know

would you kindly contact the school and advise of changes as
soon as possible.
We appreciate your assistance.
‘KINTEEN’ - CANTEEN ROSTER WEEK 5, TERM 4
************
Community Announcements
News from around the School Winners- Lani Loo and 3K!
During Term 3 I set a Home Learning task for the children in 3K to design a poster that would express their consolidated
knowledge of visual literacy and
sustainability. I decided to enter one of
the posters into the Gosford and Wyong Councils’ National Water Week Poster
Competition. My dilemma was which one
do I choose as all the posters were
fantastic and each child had made an
enormous effort. So I went to the fall back strategy of ‘pull a name out of a hat’. The
day before the entry date and after the
children went home, I placed the names of
all the children who completed a poster into a hat and pulled out Lani Lingbeek’s name. Therefore, her poster was entered.
Well, she WON! The e-mail notifying us of her success stated:
The very creative and colourful poster by Lani Lingbeek means the school has won books to the value of $250. Lani’s success is a representation of the creativity of the children in 3K as all
the posters were of a very high standard. Congratulations
Lani, be proud! Ms Kerrie.
Newcastle Permanent Primary Mathletics Competition

children across hundreds of schools participate. The following
