St. Patrick's DayMarch 17th is St. Patrick’s Day! And on that day, everyone has a little Irish in them as St. Patrick’s Day is a joyous celebration of Irish heritage. The holiday originated as a commemoration of Saint Patrick, who brought Christianity to Ireland, and died on March 17th. In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated for over a 1,000 years and is both a holy day and a national holiday. Throughout the rest of the world, St. Patrick’s Day is better known as day to celebrate the rich Irish culture.
Many people, Irish and non-Irish alike, take part in the “wearing of the green” on St. Patrick’s Day. They may also wear a symbol of Ireland, such as a brooch in the shape of a four-leaf clover or a harp. Images of leprechauns or a pot of gold are seen in promotional material for St Patrick’s Day. The Irish flag and balloons in flag’s colors (green, white and orange) are also visible during events, activities and in promotions on the day.
