“The Taxpayer”
• A man identifying himself as a taxpayer demands to get on the ship to Mars. However, he misses the flight and is stuck on earth.
• The Big Question• What have you missed out on that has been a
big disappointment to you?
“The Third Expedition”
• Through telepathy, Martians trick the members of the third expedition into thinking they are their long lost relatives. They lure them into their homes and kill them.
• The Big Question• How is the Martians’ ploy similar to their last
treatment of earthlings? How is it different?
“And the Moon Be Still as Bright”
• The fourth expedition arrives on a peaceful and beautiful Mars. The Martians have all died of chicken pox. Spender kills many members of the crew because he wants to honor the Martians and study the planet.
• The Big Questions• What is Bradbury saying about imperialism and
government? Why is Cheroke an important symbolic character?
