Short Story-

It all started as a normal day, playing in the yard with Milo my puppy when Mum comes running out; “Hurry Emma get in the car we are going to the supermarket to buy toilet paper!”. Milo and I didn’t understand the rush to buy toilet paper, maybe she needed to do a number 2 and we had nothing for her to wipe her backside with. So, I agreed to go as I could get a choccy. We finally arrived at the supermarket, that’s when Mum grabbed me and told me I had to sanitise my hands and social distance. What was social distancing, and why did I have to stand 2 metres away from everyone?

Mum and I rushed to the cleaning aisle first. “Are you joking?” mum yelled, “where is all the sanitiser and germ killer?”. Next was the toilet paper aisle, but again it was bare. I was beginning to wonder if I was in a movie or a zombie apocalypse or even worse, how bad was mum busting for the toilet! “Mum, can we go?” “I just want my chocolate and to go see Milo!”

The car ride home was awkward. Every time I tried to speak mum told me to shush because she was trying to listen to the radio. They weren’t even playing music; they were talking about something called Covid-19. “See this is why I am always telling you to wash your hands Emma, you never know what germs you’re touching.”

The news for the next few weeks was a lot about the Coronavirus. I was getting bored hearing about it all the time, I just wanted to go to the park and play with my friends but overall, this lock down is not too bad. I get to hang out with Milo and Mum all the time. We even bake sometimes. Hopefully, everything goes back to normal soon though. People just need to keep social distancing, sanitizing and pray for the best.
