What is a rattlesnakes animal group?
A rattlesnake is a REPTILE
Some other reptiles are geckos, alligators, tortoises, sea turtles
and other snakes like the boa constrictor
What makes a rattlesnake special ?
Rattlesnakes have a rattle at the end of their tail to warn
predators to stay FAR away
Rattlesnakes can grow up to 7ft long!
What is the life cycle of a rattlesnake?
A baby rattlesnake is up to 10 inches long when it is born
Baby rattlesnakes are born with no rattleAfter 10 days the baby rattlesnake gets their first rattle and goes out on it’s own
The female rattlesnake carries the baby eggs for 3 monthsThe baby rattlesnake hatches out of the egg INSIDE the female rattlesnake
A rattlesnake is fully grown when it is 3 years oldSome snakes do not live for that long
How does a rattlesnake stay safe?
A rattlesnake stays safe by using a poisonous bite
The venom is below and behind the rattlesnakes eyes. The venom enters the predator through the rattlesnakes
hollow teeth. Rattlesnakes can kill a predator in 20 seconds
What do rattlesnakes eat?
Rattlesnakes eat rats, birds, mice, eggs and other small animals
Where do rattlesnakes live?
Rattlesnakes live in caves
….and under logs
Rattlesnakes live in the Western hemisphere
What are the rattlesnakes predators?
Baby rattlesnakes can be eaten by coyotes, hawks and weasels
The only predators of the adult rattlesnake are KINGSNAKES and humans!
How do humans affect rattlesnakes?
Humans also take away the
land that rattlesnakes live
on by building on it
The impact of the human is that they take rattlesnake skin and rattles to sell. Humans sometimes eat rattlesnakes too
How are rattlesnakes helpful or harmful to humans?
Rattlesnakes help humans by eating the mice and rats that spread disease on our crops
Rattlesnakes are harmful to humans because their venomous bite can be fatal
