A is for Adventure Land Adventureland is in DesMoines. The space shot is most popular ride in adventureland. The dragon is also a popular ride for people with iron stomaches.

During the war of 1812 Black Hawk fought on the British side. After the war, he was taken to the Eastern U.S.

The capitol building in Des Moines is topped with a thin layer of gold. It is the only five domed capitol in the country. After achieving statehood, Iowa recognized that the capitol should be moved farther west than Iowa City, in 1854 they were authorized to move the state capitol.

Ephraim G. Fairchild moved to Iowa with his family in 1857. With some help from his uncle, he settled on a farm in Jones county.

Fort Madison was used from 1808 1813. It was the first U.S. fort that was permanent. Black Hawk had his first battle against U.S. troops. It was one of 3 posts established by the U.S. army.

Dodge was born in Putnamville, near Daverns in Massachusetts. He joined the Union Army in the Civil War. During the Civil War he helped secure 6,000 muskets to supply Iowa volunteers

Hawkeyes football was first played in 1872. They were consecutive Big Ten titles in 1921- 1922.

From the 15 th to 18 th centuries. They lived in Minnesota. In 1836 they settled in Missouri along with the Sauk and the Fox. Some 45 Iowa fought in the Civil War.

Jefferson was organized winter 1855-56 and officially incorporated in January 1872. In the Civil War the railroad came through it.

The town was named after General Knox in 1853 citizens of Marion Country used the railroad to get to Knoxville. The first railroad to reach it was Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad, the second was Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific.

Newton was founded in 1850. The coal industry was opened in the 1870s. In the 20 th century, Newton was a manufacturing community. Newton entered the national stage in 1938.

Iowa designed the oak as the state tree in 1961. The oak was chosen because it is abundant in the state and provides shelter, food, and nesting cover for many animals and birds.

The Underground railroad traveled through Eastern Iowa. Before the Civil War, Harriet freed 70 slaves from slavery using it.
