A couple of players from Northwestern
University have voted to form a union where
they have a voice. As NPR’ S David
Schaper said on Morning Edition “ The
players argue they’re not just students who
play sports, but employees who work more
than 40 hours a week for there University,
training, practicing, and playing in games
that they can have career ending injures, but
meanwhile the school brings in millions of
dollars from the games. The scholarships
that many receive don’t fully reflect there
value to the school, the players argue.”
Power Words!University- an institution of higher education having authority to award bachelors' and higher degrees, usually having research facilities.
Union- the act of uniting two or more things.
Scholarship- a sum of money or granted to a student, because of athletics, need, etc., to pursue his or her studies.
Northwestern players wear America flag jerseys to show there support to the military, and to show we are all united!

Football. Some players all over the
country wore “ APU” ( which stands for
all players united) wristbands to show
their support.

Here’s a statistic to show how under-
privileged these athletes are. The
combined 2011 salaries of just the
highest-paid college football coaches is
53.4 million dollars, but the combined
salaries of the 13,877 divison I college
football players is 0.
Here is a picture to show how under-privileged these kids are!
