1 SM CLP The Server Management Command Line Protocol (SM CLP) provides access to all manageable elements of a system by using transport protocols like telnet or SSHv2 on LAN interfaces or asynchronous protocols on serial interfaces. This SM CLP protocol is standardized by DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force), for details please refer to http://www.dmtf.org/sites/default/files/standards/documents The protocol supports scripting facilities as well as human interaction. It is organized in a hierarchical manner, showing manageable components in a tree as so-called targets. Attributes of these targets are mapped to so-called properties. These properties can be read, and some can be set to predefined values. The information about the settable values can be retrieved by the “help <property name>” command. The architecture of the SM CLP standard comprises three components: • client/management station • management blade • managed elements: chassis (system unit), server blades, connection blades, management blades, storage

BX400 S1 System

The SM CLP is a command/response protocol, transmitted and received over a text message-based transport protocol (SSHv2,Telnet etc.) used for text-based operations on managed elements. The managed elements (MEs) are the objects, targets, components, resources, collections, or logical entities within a managed system that the operations manipulate, such as its blades or switches.

1.1 OEM SM CLP OEM targets are managed elements whose properties and behavior are beyond the standard SM CLP specification. For OEM notations the SM CLP Specification only requests that “when defining OEM target name addresses, implementations shall observe the CLP command delimiter characters and may follow CLP target naming addressing syntax or semantics“.

1.2 Interface Requirements The SM CLP requires text-based transport protocols to access targets and properties of managed objects. These protocols are available on the management LAN interface as well as on the Service LAN interface of the management blade. Furthermore, the serial line interface (according to the V.24/RS-232 standard) in conjunction with the asynchronous character-based protocol can also be used. The following settings for the host must be used: Telnet client

• Telnet client based on RFC 139 and subsequent follow-up standards. • Support of at least the ANSI and VT100 terminal modes.

• Capable to use port 3172 (instead of standard port 23) , configurable after first access. 1.2.1 SSHv2 • SSHv2 client based on RFC 4251 and follow-up RFCs. • The default listening port of the SSH service is: 22. 1.2.2 Serial-Asynchronous Protocol The following settings for the asynchronous character-based protocol shall be applied • 8 bits per character • No parity • 1 stop bit • 115 kBaud • No flow control 1.2.3 SM CLP Service The implementation supports multiple, simultaneous sessions. Up to 4 telnet connections are possible, as well as 4 SSHv2 connections.

2 Authentication, Authorization and Access The following policies are available after the session has been authenticated and the authenticated user has entered the SM CLP command line.

• Administrator: allowed to configure all components including User Management using the following commands

cd, exit, help, show, version, reset, start, stop, set

• Operator: allowed to configure components according to his/her individual permissions using the following commands: cd, exit, help, show, version, reset, start, stop, set

• User: allowed to monitor components according to his/her restricted permissions using the following commands: cd, exit, help ,show, version
