Buying and Selling Basics
About Ebay
eBay is a online marketplace where buyers and sellers can come together and trade almost anything.
Launched in 1995 by Pierre Morad Omidyar in San Jose
• Multinational with over 100 million active users• Total value of goods sold in 2011 was $68.6 billion
dollars
How Ebay Works
• A seller lists an item on eBay– Auction Style listing or Buy It Now listing
• Auction Style-- the bidding opens at a price the seller specifies and remains on eBay for a certain number of days.– Buyers then place bids on the item. When the
listing ends, the buyer with the highest bid wins.• Buy it NOW--the first buyer willing to pay the
seller's price gets the item.
