All seam allowances are ¼-inch; press seams after sew-ing. Pattern assumes basic quiltmaking knowledge.WOF = width of fabric.

Read the entire pattern before beginning.

Step 1: Cut Fabrics & Make TemplateCut the fabrics according to the Fabric & CuttingGuide on page 4.

For Fabric 12, all strips are cut across the length of fabric.Cut the following:• 2 strips measuring 4½" x 50" and 2 strips measuring

4½" x 40" (outer borders; will be trimmed tofit later)

• 12 strips measuring 1½" x 16½"(sashing and innerborders)

• 4 strips measuring your preferred binding width(typically 2"-2½")

• 8 squares measuring 2½", then cut on the diagonalonce

Make a full-sized Template A pattern piece accordingto the instructions on page 3 and use it to make a template.

Step 2: Make Striped TrianglesSew Fabrics 6-11 together in order, creating six multi-fabric strip-sets. Using Template A, cut a total of 16units as in the diagram below.

Sew a Fabric 12 triangle to the top of each A-unit tocomplete the striped half of the sixteen blocks.

Jinny Beyer’s Butterfly Bush quilt features twelve lush fabrics from the latest edition of her Quilter’s Palette fab-ric collection. Suitable for quilters of all levels, the beautifully shaded quilt is made using strip-piecing techniquesand all straight-seam sewing.

Step 4: Complete Blocks

Lay a striped triangleand a log cabin tri-

angle right sidestogether matching the corners

and the raw edges on the shortsides. On the long side, the raw edge

of the center of the log cabin unit shouldmatch the raw edge of the striped triangle.

The ends of the Fabric 1-3 strips will beextend beyond the top unit.

With the striped triangle on top, sew the longseam. Trim the overhanging strips even with the seamallowance of the seam just sewn. Complete 16 blocks inthis way. Blocks measure 8½" including seam allowance.

Numbers indicatesewing order.

Step 1: Cut Fabrics & Make Template Cut the fabrics according to the Fabric & Cutting Guide on page 2.

For Fabric 12, all strips are cut across the length of fabric. Cut the following:

• 2 strips measuring 6" x 76" and 2 strips measuring

6" x 88" (outer borders; will be trimmed tofit later)

• 40 strips measuring 1½" x 16½"(sashing and inner

borders)

• 9 strips measuring your preferred binding width

(typically 2"-2½")

• 32 squares measuring 2½", then cut on the diagonal once

Step 2: Make Striped TrianglesSew Fabrics 6-11 together in order, creating 22 multi-fabric strip-sets. Using Template A, cut a total of 64.

Jinny Beyer’s Butterfly Bush quilt was originally sized for a small wallhanging. Make the followoing changes to the original pattern to construct a Queen Size quilt. This quilt requires 64 blocks rather than the 16 in the original pattern.

1

Step 3 and 4: Make Log Cabin Triangles Repeat these steps for 64 blocks rather than the 16 block noted in the original pattern.

Step 5: Assemble the Block Units Sew four blocks together as shown, on pattern. Repeat to make a total of 16 units.

Step 6: Assemble the Quilt:Assemble 16 units (rather than four) as shown in original pattern, ext ending each row of units to FOUR units per row. Make FOUR rows, each separated by sashing strips.
