AcknowledgementOur project wishes to acknowledge the enormous help extended to us by Dr Surya Prakash of the School of Life Sciences (SLS) at Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU). Without his help, it would have been impossible for us to be informed of the previ-ous studies conducted about The Butterflies of Delhi. Through him, we were able to acquire the list of Delhi Butterflies. He has also been so kind to allow us to use his own photographs of butterflies as part of his research on Delhi butterflies which he started many years back and being continued unto the present. He has made a data bank recording the hot spots of butterfly watch in Delhi, identifying problems for their conservation and researching on the causes of loss of habitat of these spieces. In addition to his plan in creating a butterfly conservatory at Bhatti Mines in Delhi, he finds enormous pleasure in taking small kids for butterfly walks. Several articles have been published under his name about butterflies of Delhi in the past.

Our appreciation and thanks also to Mr Ashok Madaravally for his kindness in al-lowing us to use the beautiful butterfly pictures available from the website of http://www.nerdybirders.com/ . I also dedicate this eBook in memory of his departed friends Hari Shankar and Roshni Mukherjee. Their unfailing love for nature particu-larly butterflies still echoes in their photographs.

Profile: DelhiDelhi , officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi , is the largest metropolis by area and the second largest metropolis by population in India.The National Capital Region encompasses towns South and East of the said border namely Ghaziabad , Noida , Faridabad and Gurgaon.The terrain of Delhi shows great variation.It changes from plain agricultural fields in the North to dry , arid hills in the South and the West.There used to be large natural lakes in the southern part of the city , but most of them have dried now.Delhi is situated on the Western banks of the river Yamuna.Delhi features a typical version of the humid sub-tropical climate.Summers are long , but extremely hot with the monsoon season in between.The brief , mild winter starts in late November and peaks in January. Delhi has been provided with proper utility services of transport and education.Delhi is very rich in Indian culture.The govern-ment is putting its efforts to improve the environmental conditions of Delhi.Delhi has a number of tourist hot-spots like the Red Fort , the India Gate and the Akshard-ham temple which further define its history and shows its improvement environ-mentally and geographically.It also shows the variety of religions followed by people in Delhi.
