Transcript of But You Didn't: Two

Remember the time you lent me your car and I dented it?

I thought you’d kill me…

But you didn’t.

Remember the time I forgot to tell you the dance was formal, and you came in

jeans?

I thought you’d hate me…

But you didn’t.

Remember the times I’d flirt withother boys just to make you jealous, and

you were?

I thought you’d drop me…

But you didn’t.

There were plenty of things you did to put up with me,

to keep me happy, to love me, and there are

so many things I wanted to tellyou when you returned from

Vietnam…

But you didn’t…..

I think the person the poet is talking about would have been very embarrassed when they turn up to the dance in jeans and everyone else was in suits and dresses. I also think that they were very fond of the poet not to get mad at them for not telling them the dance in jeans. But still that would have been awkward!

The Person in question must have been furious and yet still kept her. This illuminates just how important she was to him. The poet obviously loved the man considering she felt the need to go to such extremes for his attention. I can decode her thankfulness to the man as she states also “I thought you’d drop me but you didn’t” This explains to us just how grateful she truly is, using suspense in her rhythm, trying to get her point across.

This stanza is the most vivid image throughout the poem. This image shows us just how much she truly loved him, and the most powerful image in the poem, the death of her love. The reminiscent style of this poem helps us to get an image of how much she loves and misses him.
