But Yet

I am the planet Earth. I am locked in a dance with the sun I exhale hurricanes and wind and snow I tremble and shake I dance through dark and I dance through light I warm, I cool, and I warm again I have no mouth But yet I speak. I have no eyes But yet I see. I have no skin But yet I burn. I am burnt orange in the sands of the desert I am soaked through for miles under the shimmering surface of my vast expanses I am clothed with verdant canopies I am adorned with golden beaches, diamond clis, sapphire lakes I cradle small islands in the warmth of my shallows I have no head But yet I think. I have no ears But yet I hear. I have no legs But yet I move. I am the world of the poor; of beggars, Of thieves and misers, Of dictators and generals, Of killers and witnesses, Of bullies and bystanders, Of those forgotten and those who forget. But I am also your world And I am kind to dreamers and thinkers, To poets and painters,

  • I am the planet Earth.I am locked in a dance with the sunI exhale hurricanes and wind and snowI tremble and shakeI dance through dark and I dance through lightI warm, I cool, and I warm again

I have no mouthBut yet I speak.I have no eyesBut yet I see.I have no skinBut yet I burn.

I am burnt orange in the sands of the desertI am soaked through for miles under the shimmering surface of my vast expansesI am clothed with verdant canopiesI am adorned with golden beaches, diamond clis, sapphire lakesI cradle small islands in the warmth of my shallows

I have no headBut yet I think.I have no earsBut yet I hear.I have no legsBut yet I move.

I am the world of the poor; of beggars,Of thieves and misers,Of dictators and generals,Of killers and witnesses,Of bullies and bystanders,Of those forgotten and those who forget.

But I am also your worldAnd I am kind to dreamers and thinkers,To poets and painters,

  • To mothers and fathers,To lovers and explorersTo all those wishing to get to know me better.

I have no handsBut yet I help.I have no lungsBut yet I breathe.I have no fingersBut yet I feel.

I am a world filled with greed and cheatingWith sorrow and painWith war and destructionWith death and violenceWith hate and moneyWith fire and gas

But I am also filled with light and wonderWith love and kindnessWith beauty and graceWith knowledge and reasonWith peace and solitudeWith song and laughter

I have no mindBut yet I learn.I have no tearsBut yet I weep.I have no bloodBut yet I bleed.

You can slash my forestsDry my lakesLevel my peaksFlood my shoresPlug my riversPave my grasses

You can place me in your servitude for as long as you liveAnd when you face the consequences, you can blame your woes on meI will not protest. For when all is said and done, I will still be here.

  • I will break through pavement; through my chainsAnd I will keep dancing as I have always done.

I have no brainBut yet I know.I have no nervesBut yet I hurt.I have no heartBut yet I love.

    I am you,I am your friend,your teacher,your past,your present,your future,your onlyhome.

    I am the planet Earth.
