The City is in the process of developing an economic recovery plan in Camarillo. Weunderstand that this has been a difficult time for businesses and our goal is to helpbusinesses navigate through the County’s reopening process quickly and safely.Through the Shop Safe Camarillo Program, City staff have been visiting Camarillobusinesses to provide information and resources that are coming from the Countyand State. As businesses reopen, City staff is conducting business visits to verify thebusiness has proper signage posted, and has prevention measures in place to keepemployees and customers safe during this time. We are delivering “Shop Safe” window decals and encouraging businesses to display these in their window to sharewith the community that their business has been inspected by the City and passedthe compliance check. Our hope is that these window decals help to rebuild consumer confidence in Camarillo, demonstrating how we all must work together toget through this econonmic crisis.

The Camarillo Sanitary District reminds you to place flushable wipesin the trash, not the toilet. Flushing them down the toilet causesblockages and other problems in your sewer system and the City’streatment plant. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and morepeople staying at home, the use of wipes has increased, becominga problem for the sewer system. Wipes have been observed acrossthe country as a problem. Now that the product is increasinglybeing used, the Sanitary District is seeing an increase in the improper disposal of this product along with improperly disposed ofhygiene products, fats, oils and grease, disposable gloves and facemasks. Remember to always keep these products out of thesewer system and never put anything down the drain that is notintended for disposal through this system.

The Sanitary District treats regular sanitation that can be brokendown through our treatment processes. Plastics, wipes, fats, oils andgrease along with many non disposable chemicals should never beput into the sewer drains. Always check the products directions forproper disposal. If you are unsure, please call 805-388-5663.

The summer sun may call you to swim, but be careful howyou care for your pool. The City of Camarillo has areminder for those who own or maintain a swimming pool;please be aware of proper pool maintenance and regulations because pool water contains pollutants thatcould end up in our waterways and, if not drained correctly, harming our creeks and ocean.

· Properly maintained pools should require draining nomore than once every ten years. · It is illegal to discharge the water from salt-water chemistry pools into the storm drain or sewer systems. Thiswater must be hauled to an ocean-discharging disposalfacility.· Prior to draining a fresh water pool, ensure water is cleanof algae, mosquitoes, leaves and debris, and reduce thechlorine level to .1 ppm and pH to 7-8. Clean thedrainage path (curb/gutter/street) to remove any debristhat may wash out to the storm drain with the pool water.· Pool filter backwash (diatomaceous earth) should neverbe washed into the street, gutter or storm drain system;bag it wet and dispose of it in your trash receptacle. · Follow the directions before using any pool chemical. Before draining your swimming pool, please notify the City

HOW DO I REGISTER TO VOTE?

You can register to vote or update yourregistration on the Secretary of State’swebsite: registertovote.ca.gov. If you

miss the October 19 registration deadlineor have questions, contact Ventura

County Elections at (805) 654-2664.

In 2019, the City switched from an “at-large” electoral systemto a district system. Under the at-large system, all residentsvoted for all five Councilmembers who were elected torepresent the whole City. With the new electoral districtsystem, the City has five districts, and one Councilmemberwill be elected to represent each district by registered votersliving within that district. In the November 3, 2020 GeneralMunicipal Election, residents will elect two Councilmembers,one to District 3 and one to District 4. The three remainingCouncilmembers will remain elected “at-large” until theNovember 2022 election, when residents will electCouncilmembers to Districts 1, 2 and 5.

HOW DO I RUN FOR ELECTION TO THE CAMARILLO CITY COUNCIL?A candidate must be a United States citizen, 18 years old on or before election day, and registered to vote

in the District of the office sought at the time the nomination paper is issued by the City Clerk. The November 3 election will bean all VBM election.

After conducting extensive outreach over a 17-month period, the City Council approved the final conceptplans for the reuse of two important City-owned properties located in the Camarillo Old Town area. The planfor the former Courthouse property (2220 Ventura Boulevard) includes demolition of the existing building, construction of a new passive park, restrooms, and expanded parking to support businesses andthe Farmer’s Market. The Dizdar Park / former Fire Station property (southwest corner of Ventura Boulevardand Glenn Drive) plan includes demolition of the existing buildings to make way for a band shell, renovated park with fire station themed children’s play equipment, restrooms, sitting garden, parking, andenhanced park entrance. Construction of these sites will be under the City’s Capital ImprovementsProgram, with Dizdar Park tentatively to be constructed in 2021-22. TheMarket has always been volunteer run, but becausemany of the regular volunteers are over 65, they havebeen unable to continue to provide assistance, dueto current restrictions, so CERT stepped in to fill a void!

Volunteers have helped run the Farmers Market everyweekend since April 11, donating a combined totalof 72 volunteer hours over the past six weeks.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)program is run through the Ventura County FireDepartment and teaches community membersabout the potential disasters that could affect theirarea and how to safely and responsibly respond tothem. Not only does the Farmers Market provide patrons the opportunity to support local businesses, but a percentage of the proceeds go to CamarilloHospice’s Grief & Bereavement Programs which provides free counseling services to families facingthe loss of a loved one. We are so grateful to ourCERT volunteers for pitching in to help us maintainthese vital community resources. It truly demonstrateshow a community can come together in a crisis.
