This programme enables graduates from any discipline to engage with current business processes and techniques, whilst teaching you how to implement this knowledge within contemporary organisations. You’ll learn key management, strategy and analytical skills, with the opportunity to specialise in a specific subject area relevant to your current or future career.

Programme overviewDuring the first semester you will attend lectures and tutorials for core modules that have been selected to provide you with a fundamental underpinning in the subject area of business and management.

The second semester of the programme commences with an intensive introduction to the 60-credit project, and associated research methods training. You will also pursue your choice of elective module, and complete the remaining 40 credits of the Business and Management ‘core’: Knowledge management and decision making, and Operations and project management.

During the summer semester, you will work independently to carry out your research project. You will receive guidance from a member of academic staff, appointed as your supervisor. Specialist pathways are available, which will be reflected in your award title. You will need to take a prescribed combination of elective modules and carry out your research project in a related field to qualify for a specialist pathway award.

Are you a senior manager, consultant or entrepreneur who wants to draw together both the theoretical and practical aspects of leadership and managerial experience? Designed to enable you to develop professional practice, theoretical understanding and reflexive capability, the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) is a high-level, innovative qualification and an alternative route if you wish to research your professional practice at doctorate level.

Programme overviewYou will undertake an individual research project drawing on your practical experience and theoretical frameworks. Initially there is an emphasis on close direction through workshops, presentations and written papers. On the basis of the written papers and a research proposal, the second phase involves the completion of a thesis. You will be expected to concentrate on an issue directly related to your workplace, such as solving a problem or identifying new operational procedures. Programme overviewYear 1 You will start the programme with an induction and introduction to doctoral research. You will then engage in reflective practice, reflexivity and participatory research, and identify and explain theory. History and philosophy of public policy and social sciences and understanding paradigms of inquiry will be covered before you begin to develop methodological approaches. You will then work towards your research proposal and thesis.

Year 2 You’ll build on the knowledge and skills gained during your first year, and continue to study your chosen taught modules. After you’ve completed your second year, and the taught phase of your doctorate, you’ll then have an additional two to three years to complete your thesis.

We focus on interactive, experiential and participatory learning, so you’re ready to face the ecological, economic and social challenges of tomorrow.

Programme overviewModule one entails an exploration of ecological design principles, including both natural system design and human ecology. The overarching enquiry in this foundation module is the degree to which the principles underlying ecosystem design are transferable to the complex adaptive system that is the economy. This includes explorations of complexity theory, Gaian science and systems theory.

Module two looks at the new economy in practice, including fi eld trips to a number of innovative economic projects and initiatives.

Module three looks in more depth at the great debates currently live in the fi eld of economics and seeks to dive deeper into exploring how insights drawn from ecosystem design can yield useful insights into the design and emergence of more just, equitable and sustainable economic systems and models.

You have a choice of two elective modules in semester two and will undertake a dissertation in semester three.

This programme is designed to harness your talent, ambition and entrepreneurial fl air. You’ll cultivate new ideas and inspire those around you to use innovation to discover new opportunities and create growth. On this programme you will develop an understanding of the factors that inform strong entrepreneurial business decisions and innovative business and marketing strategies.

Programme overviewThis programme requires the completion of ten modules (seven core and three optional choices). The core modules include three generic modules designed to provide fundamental business knowledge in the international business environment, knowledge management and strategic decision making, and leadership and management essentials. Building upon this knowledge, the programme then provides four core modules designed to provide the fundamental knowledge required to succeed in a small business environment in an international context. These include: appreciating business strategy, appreciating diversity in entrepreneurship, emerging trends in entrepreneurship, and evaluating entrepreneurship in developing and emerging economies. The programme also provides the choice of two optional modules from a choice of three, which include business growth, fi nancing a business start-up and growth organisation and social entrepreneurship. The MBA is recognised worldwide as the premier postgraduate qualification in the field of business management. This MBA is a distance learning ‘top-up’ programme designed specifically for holders of postgraduate diplomas in business or management, allowing you to ‘fast-track’ your studies to gain a full MBA award. The programme assessment is project-based and supported through expert supervision and online learning – it can be studied from any location worldwide.

Programme overviewYou will progress or articulate to the programme following the successful completion of 120 Level 7 credits in business and management or an equivalent postgraduate diploma. You are required to undertake a single 60-credit Level 7 dissertation chosen from a broad range of topics including marketing, human resource management, maritime logistics, economics, supply chain management or international strategic management under the supervision of an appropriate academic with relevant subject expertise. The programme consists of a single module: MBA project.
