Open Day August 12

Open Day on Melbourne Campus saw thousands of prospective students and their parents and partners visit ACU. The School was visited by literally hundreds of Year 11 and 12 students making enquiries about all of the School's business and related programs. There was very strong enquiry for the School's dual degrees, particular the BCom/LLB and the BBA/LLB. There were also many students attending the Law Faculty stand similarly enquiring about dual degrees with Business. A number of enquiries were also made for the School's dual degrees with Arts, especially the BArts/ BCom and the BBA/BGlobal Studies.

We also had two presentations on our undergraduate programs delivered by Elizabeth and myself which were strongly attended. Over 200 students and their parents attended the presentations with many following up with questions seeking further information on our programs.

The Open Day event was very well handled from all staff from the School who participated on the day. School staff assisted students with advice, answering questions, providing information to prospective students on University programs and providing guidance to new School staff. The level of enthusiasm displayed by Business all augers well for the upcoming academic year.

On behalf of the School I want to pay special thanks to the following staff who gave up their Sunday, away from their families to assist with the School's Open Day:- Nick Mroczkowski, Sugumar Mariappanadar, Somkiat Kitjongthawonkul, Bulend Terzioglu, Darcy McCormack, Elsie Chan, Rebecca Leshinsky, Thomas Kobinah, Luigi Belmonte, De-anne English-McAdams, Dylan Etteridge (student representative), Deanne O'Shea and Elizabeth More.

St Kevin's

In Semester Two the School in Melbourne continues its association with St Kevin's with seven Year 11 students enrolling into LEGL101 Introduction to Law. In Semester One seven students from St Kevin's also completed ACCT100 Principles of Accounting. The students, by all accounts have enjoyed their University experience. I want to thank Geoff Speight for his handling of the logistic issues associated with teaching the introductory accounting unit. I also want to thank Andrew Schrader who provided invaluable assistance with the enrolment process, especially when this was the first time the University has enrolled secondary school students into a single university unit.

AVC Melbourne Campus__________________________________________________________________________________

Last month saw the retirement of Chris Sheargold as the AVC Melbourne. Chris's contribution to ACU was nothing short of phenomenal. Serving the ACU community for 32 years and AVC of Melbourne for a number of those years, Chris was a strong supporter of the School of Business in Melbourne. There were many staff attending Chris's farewell including from the School. We wish Chris well on his next journey. This month we also had the arrival of the new AVC for Melbourne, Dr John Ballard. Dr Ballard is already well known to the Business Faculty with his association on the Faculty's business advisory council. We welcome Dr Ballard's appointment and hope to continue the strong support and dialogue with him as the AVC Melbourne.
