IntroductionIndia has evolved as country with maximum no. of youth population over the

past decade. Exposure of mass media and globalization has created the

demand of being individual amongst youth. People are choosing innovative

way of living their life. In this busy world keeping own image identical has

become very important. But because of busy schedule people are hardly

getting any time to look after their own self. Plasma TV generation has created

such an impact that people are even paying someone to shop for them. That’s

how the concept of personal shopper has evolved.

Image makeover is a process through which one can get their appearance

enhanced majorly by changing his clothing style and often using makeup and

hair styling. . Makeovers can range from something as simple as a new haircut,

to the use of cosmetic surgery, to the extreme of the implantation of dental

veneers, eye-color-changing contact lenses also.

Because of high disposable income now country like India is also feeling the

need to have Image makeover salon. Image makeover salon is something not

only give a good make up and beauty treatment; but it will also provide their

client with major styling tips according to their body type, cultural

significance, profession and all other parameters.

"Shows like Trinny And Susannah have increased the awareness of image

services and consequently they are being used by everyone from senior

executives and grandmothers to brides-to-be - even men and women going

through separation. It gives them reassurance to get-up-and-go again."

Some might think makeovers are self-indulgent - after all, will a new

eyeshadow, a different skirt length or a better-fitting bra change your life? Jo

O'Rourke, co-director of Transforme with Suellen Hughes, believes services

such as theirs can help people "successfully negotiate crossroads in their

lives", while Saab says, "How you dress, groom yourself and communicate

ultimately determines your success in today's business or personal

environment."

Sydney and author of Change Your Thinking, says, "We have an increased

awareness of areas of our lives that aren't perfect, so more people are willing

to pay for this kind of help."

The style superheroes land at the door of those desperately in need of some

“color in their lives.” By rifling through their client’s belongings and asking

blunt questions, the team gets to the root of their fashion malaise, before

whisking them away for a transformation that goes beyond just their look.

From mini-makeovers to the full overhaul, business is booming as more

people contract someone else to manage their look, lifestyle or personality,

says Bernard Salt, social commentator with KPMG. "We are the plasma-TV

generation who are more celebrity, health and looks conscious, as well as

more self-empowered, than a generation ago," he says.

Make-up artists, hairdressers, cosmetic surgeons, personal trainers, stylists,

counsellors... Personal and community services are driving the jobs boom,

with 220,000 jobs created in these sectors in the past decade, according to a

spreading in India also. Especially during the gorgeous, vibrant occasions of

Indian tradition is now creating the need for Indians to go for a makeover.

Because a country like India has a variety of festivals with distinctive

individuality. So once again Indians also couldn’t avoid the effect of

globalization. The habit made by Trinny & Sussana has now become a habit of

us. So now similar Tv shows like “What not to wear India”,” Band baaja Bride

with Sabyasachi” have started appearing on Indian television.

In the same way makeover business started booming in India since last 5

years. Surprisingly now it’s not only restricted within rich higher class society;

higher middle class and middle class society also getting interested in image

makeover.

Business Idea:We have decided to come up with a business idea of opening a makeover

studio based upon Delhi. Our studio will provide with a full time makeover

program including figure correction, body type analysis, skin color correction,

particular hair cutting and all other things depending upon customer’s need

and demand. We will cater to our customers for any particular traditional

occasion, any formal parties even for any commercial events. If not event we

will be helping all our customers to build a perfect image and to keep an

attractive appearance in front of our society.

Nature of our business:

An image makeover studio comes under the category of beauty wellness

industry. This type of business always has a direct face to face contact with

their customer. Along with styling suggestions image makeover involves a

major psychological rebuilding of our clients. We will have different types of

clients with different needs. Our job will be to make them look best in this

world. If we are only talking about makeover in terms of clothes then it

generally gets very challenging for us; because in that case we won’t have an

opportunity to go for any type of figure correction. We’ll have to work around

her present situation only. After analyzing client’s body type we’ll have to use

garments in a very tricky way to make her look attractive. That’s when a stylist

comes on the screen.

Our brand will provide image makeover to every client for any kind of

situation. If our customer will demand makeover for any particular event or

occasion the first thing we’ll be working upon is cultural significance. For any

Indian occasion cultural identity is very important. But we’ll always follow

common process for giving anybody a makeover.

Body type Analysis: For image makeover analyzing client’s body type is very important. Each and

every body type demands different tricks of makeover. Each body body type

needs particular type of clothes which can make our client look best amongst

her society. Without analyzing body type we can’t suggest any styling tips.

Skin tone & skin type Analysis: After clothes the most important parameter is

makeup. For that we need to analyze client’s skin type and suggest her perfect

make up.

Psychological Analysis: We will always have to keep our client’s choice in mind.

If our client doesn’t like certain colors, make up or any particular type of

clothes we’ll have to think of an alternative of our own suggestion. Customer’s

satisfaction is a major role for our business.

Wardrobe: Wardrobe edits is basically sorting out client’s wardrobe according

to the clothes which she really needs to keep and use. About rest of the

clothes we’ll always think of some alternative. Some client might have some

clothes but she doesn’t know how to pair it up. In that case an efficient

wardrobe stylist will help her/him.

Our image makeover studio will consist of a fashion stylist, personal shopper,

aroma therapist and makeup artist. We’ll also have a counselor or an image

consultant for particular psychographic analysis.

Prosperity:The beauty and wellness industry has gained a lot of momentum in the last

decade. A study jointly conducted by industry body, Federation of Indian

Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and global consulting firm

Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) revealed that India’s wellness industry is

poised to touch Rs 1,00,000 crore by 2015, with a compounded annual growth

rate of 15-17 per cent, from about Rs 70,000 crore in 2012.

Of the entire wellness industry, beauty care would continue to dominate with

almost 50 per cent (about Rs 49,000 crore)

In India, the beauty care market is broadly divided into cosmetic products,

salons and cosmetic treatment centers. It is estimated that over 85 per cent of

the salon industry revenue comes from the women population though men’s

interest to walk into salon has recently seen a major rise. Earlier only

celebrities looked beautiful, today being well groomed has become a lifestyle.

To look good, one not only has to be well dressed but pay equal attention to

hair, maintain a healthy skin and take care of the most exposed skin such as

face, hands and feet. Pollution, stress, imbalance lifestyle is an everyday word

that effects ones skin and hair, be it a man or a woman. This has given the

necessary boost to the salon industry as the generation is too busy to look at

lengthy home remedies.

The Indian Salon industry stands at a staggering USD 2 billion mark and is

expected to touch USD 3.5 billion by 2015. Glancing at the high growth

pattern, private equity investors are eyeing the salon business and this has

proven to be the key funding source for the salon industry’s growth. Today

India comprises of 25 per cent organized salon market, which will increase its

share to 30 per cent by 2015.

Major growth of salon industry and booming wellness industry indicates

business like image makeover studio has a lot of prosperity to flourish in India.

Growth propellers:Growing disposable income of middle class, peer pressure and ever-increasing

exposure by media are some of the factors truly making India as the hottest

market for high-end salon brands and services like image makeover in India.

In fact, its customers are willing to spend as long as they are getting

something specifically different. Image Makeover business is not about

catering to women only, now men are too becoming more conscious about

enhancing their looks. So, we have to be very careful about pricing and

services as per the customers’ spending capacity.

Makeover salon is a booming business. Because grooming our own selves is a

must in the urban cities, we target our audience in the urban areas only, which

in this pie chart is 40%.

After further segmenting the audiences we come to people who would want

to groom themselves that are 18 above and live in the cities, which in this pie

chart are 30%. Then we segment the audience on the bases of their income,

because high end grooming isn't a mass market product and only very few can

afford it, thus only 5% people who live in the cities, belong to upper middle

and upper class and would be willing to spend a lot on high end grooming will

be our target audience.

Since our target market profile mainly consists of the rich elite and upper

middle class we have chosen Defence colony as the location for our studio.

Being situated at a high class posh locality of New Delhi our studio will reach

its maximum target audience conveniently. The cost of having this location

takes the form of higher than average rent. Due to that we have planned to

set up our studio at the basement of our partner’s house. As a result of that

our initial cost gets reduced.

A revenue model is a framework for generating revenues. It identifies

which revenue source to pursue, what value to offer, how to price the

value, and who pays for the value. It primarily identifies what product or

service will be created in order to generate revenues and the ways in

which the product or service will be sold. Without a well defined

revenue model, that is, a clear plan of how to generate revenues, new

businesses will more likely struggle due to costs which they will not be

able to sustain. By having a clear revenue model, a business can focus

on a target audience, fund development plans for a product or service,

establish marketing plans, begin a line of credit and raise capital.

Types of Revenue Model:The type of revenue model that is available to a firm depends, in large

part, on the activities the firm performs, and how it charges for those.

Various models by which to generate revenue include:

Advertising model:

The advertising model is often used by Media businesses which use

their platforms where content is provided to the customer as an

advertising space. Possible examples are newspapers and magazines

which generate revenue through the various adverts encountered in

their issues. Internet businesses which often provide services will also

have advertising spaces on their platforms. Examples include Google

and Taobao Mobile applications also use this specific revenue model to

generate revenues. By incorporating some ad space, many popular

apps such as Twitter and Instagram have strengthened their mobile

revenue potential after previously having no real revenue stream.

For a makeover studio the main source of generating revenue is its styling

service packages. Our customer will pay us for the service we'll give them.

According to our research two types of revenue models can be followed by

our brand. Production model and Fee for service both can be followed by us.

In production model business produce its own product or service and

generate revenue through that. Our service is being generated by us only but

the products used for our service is being bought from other brand. So in that

case our revenue model should be fee for service model. Fee-for-service (FFS)

is a payment model where services are unbundled and paid for separately. For

e.g In case of health care, it gives an incentive for physicians to provide more

treatments because payment is dependent on the quantity of care, rather

than quality of care.

In a business like makeover studio the situation is also the same. Here the

payment will be dependent on how many hours our stylist will be spending

with our customer.

The commission model is similar to the as it is used when a

business charges a fee for a transaction that it mediates between two parties.

Brokerage companies or auction companies often use it as they provide a

service as intermediaries and generate revenue through commissions on the

sales of either stock or products.

In the production model, the business that creates the product or service sells it to customers who value and thus pay for it. This is the most common revenue model and a possible example would be a company that produces paper, sells it to either the direct public or other businesses that pay for the paper thus generate revenue for the paper company.

In the fee-for-service model, unlike in the subscription model, the business

only charges customers for the amount of service or product they use. Many

phone companies provide pay as you go services whereby the customer only

pays for the amount of minutes he actually uses.

Freemium works by offering a product or service free of charge (typically

digital offerings such as software, content, games, web services or other)

while charging a premium for advanced features, functionality, or related

products and services. For example, a fully functional feature-limited ("lite")

version may be given away for free, with advanced features disabled until a

license fee is paid. The word "freemium" is a portmanteau combining the two

aspects of the business model: "free" and "premium". It has become a highly

popular model, with notable success.

customer in buying the clothes we'll decide the entire look incorporating

accessories, shoes and we'll decide particular makeup & hairstyle for our

client with this look. (Charges for makeup & hairstyling excluded)

Wardrobe Edit:

In this package our stylist will help our customer to create certain looks for

their daily life. We'll help our customer to set him/her wardrobe in an efficient

by removing all the clothes which is not suitable for our customer. We'll

suggest them how to buy perfect clothes for their particular body type and

what color to use for their skin tone. After this package in their daily life they'll

rediscover themself everyday. We will keep in mind our client's profession

before giving them wardrob edit.

Youth Package:

Now these packages are specially designed for our young customers. Here

we'll work for particular situation in youth life. For e.g someone is upgrading

from school to college we'll change her entire cupboard by analyzing her

nature, her body type, skin type and most importantly the stream of study

she's choosing. Same is applicable for a person who is upgrading from college

to professional life. These are some exclusive packages specially created for

our young generation to look appropriate in front of our society.

Charge: Rs.10000

Full Makeover:

This consists of makeover and styling consultancy, wardrobe edits and

personal shopping. This package is for a full makeover for daily life. At the end

of this makeover we come up with a few random looks incorporated with

accessories and shoes along with makeup & hairstyle suggestion for our

client's daily life. As a final result we create 3 particular look for different

situations such as day look, evening look & workwear along with makeup &

hairstyle.

Charge: Rs.60000/- (Final 3 looks with makeup & hairstyle)

Rs.50000/- (Final 3 looks with only makeup & hairstyle suggestion)

Bridal Trousseau:

this package is exclusively designed for our beautiful brides. This package

consists of creating all the looks for our bride for every function along with her

shopping, beauty treatment, makeup & hairstyle. In this case we'll always

handpick all the necessary material such as accessories, shoes along with her

clothes depending upon her requirement.

In Bridal Trousseau we have same package for our groom also.

Charge: For Bride Rs. 115,000/-

For Groom Rs. 85,000/-

For availing all the above packages prior appointment is must.

Except all these packages we provide our stylist for urgent personal styling

also without appointment

For our business we have set our initial investment to be somewhat 25 lakhs.

We’ll divide this initial investment amongst us six people in the group. We

need a location in a very Porsche area for our studio to be. Luckily one of our

group mates has her home at defence colony and we’ll get her ground floor

for free of cost as the location for our studio.

As a margin money we’ take loan of 1 crore by putting property on mortgage.

This money we’ll keep as back up if we’ll face any loss or some other mishap.

·Our brand will have an extremely unique USP in terms of body analysis and

styling. Through particular software we’ll create a digital 3d model of same

measurements of our client. That digital model would be our medium to show

our clients different kind of styling and makeup effect. In that case for trial we

don’t need to waste make up stuff too much and this is a way smarter process

of image makeover. Without even trying any clothes our clients will get to

know what works best on them

·We’ll provide our client additional fitness consultancy also from renowned

fitness instructor of reputed fitness centre or gym.

Media is used as a medium to directly convey the message to the target

market.

As a startup business model our media and marketing strategy should be

extremely strong. For setting up a new business one of the major parameters

is promotion i.e. making people aware of our makeover studio.

Marketing strategy:

Marketing strategy is the fundamental base for increasing sales and achieving

sustainable competitive advantage. Marketing strategy includes all basic,

short-term, and long-term activities in the field of marketing that deal with

the analysis of the strategic initial situation of a company and the formulation,

evaluation and selection of market-oriented strategies. Therefore it

contributes to the goals of the company and its objectives.

As a startup business we have to plan marketing strategy which is efficient and

doesn’t cost much.

As our initial marketing strategy we have come up with a few ideas. The first

marketing strategy is “word of mouth” marketing. This we will pair up with our

promotional strategy.As a part of our promotions initially we’ll use gift

vouchers with which our customers will get Rs.2000/- off on any of our

services of above Rs.15000/-.

This we’ll circulate through multiple mediums –

· At first we’ll visit high profile clubs, pubs, restaurants and we’ll put up a

proposal to style their staff members according to their requirement for free.

In return we will ask them to give our gift vouchers to their customers. High

profile restaurants and pubs are generally frequented by our ideal target

market as a result our promotion will get a good reach automatically.

·The cosmetic store which will provide us with all necessary cosmetics we

want; we’ll tie up with that store too. We’ll tell them to circulate our gift

voucher to their customer.

·For raising more awareness we’ll start campaign or workshop in colleges. A

major part of our target market covers young college students. We’ll set up

styling and makeover workshop to make them understand our concept.

Fashion colleges in Delhi would be one of our major targets for this type of

marketing strategy. We will set up different small competitions of ‘Most Stylish

Student’ and put it on for an online voting system on any social networking

site. The winners would get gift vouchers along with a token gift.

· Association with other beauty Salons: Our studio will tie up with an

established beauty salon which will help our customer to get some beauty

treatments done in 10% less cost than the usual. Our studio will get the salon

more customers and in return of that we’ll get 5% commission and that salon

will distribute our gift voucher. This marketing strategy will help us to increase

our revenue also.

· Association with Gym or Fitness centre: Similar type of deal we’ll have with a

particular gym or any fitness centre. If our customer needs any kind of fitness

related consultancy we’ll arrange a meeting with the fitness consultant from

that gym and in return they will do our promotion by circulating our gift

vouchers. By convincing the gym to provide the consultation free of charge

and a further 10% discount we will be able to assure a larger number of

customers.

·Association with Fashion Designer: we’ll collaborate with multiple fashion

designers and help our customers get clothes from them. Our customer will

get a 10% discount and we’ll get 2% commission and the designer recommend

people to us by circulating gift vouchers. The Designers will get an increased

customer base since our target markets are more or less the same.

Digital Media:

Social Media Marketing Strategy: We’ll be promoting our business on different

social media platforms. We’ll have our own facebook page, instagram profile

and twitter page. Along with these we will be designing a website as well as an

interactive blog. We’ll make all these pages viral before launching our brand.

The most major chunk of our investment in terms of our adverstising budget

will go into banners.

These banners will be strategically placed in few selected areas that are

frequented by our target audience.

Except banners none of our marketing strategies require a huge investment

budget. Most of our strategies are based on association and a give and take

system (Eg barter). Social medial marketing and worth of mouth is hardly

pinching our pockets. If we will do our marketing strategy like this within our

budget we would easily achieve our media objective.

Fitness Consultancy: As one of our supplementary services 'A La Mode” will give its clients free

fitness consultation along with our service packages. We will tie up with any

renowned gym or fitness centre and we'll arrange a fitness consultant for our

clients. In return of this deal we'll recommend our clients to go to that gym.

Food & Beverages: 'A la Mode' will welcome its clients with a very little snacks & beverage. Our

busy clients will definitely love to relax before long makeover process.
