Ordinal v/s cardinal

• Ordinal means utility cannot be measured, it can only be ordered – means we can put serial no. 1,2,3 etc., we cannot measure utility

• Cardinal says – utility can be measured in exact terms.


Indifference curve

• A consumer has a choice between two products – which offer similar utility

• There are infinite combinations of products which offer same utility – they are called indifference curve.


Consumer’s equilibrium

• The point where the budget line of the consumer touches indifference curve is called consumer’s equilibrium


Market equilibrium

• Where demand and supply curve intersect, it is called market equilibrium.
