SEPARATION OF SIP & RTPThis diagram illustrates the separation of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) messaging and RTP (Real Time Protocol) streams. SIP is used to initiate communications between two endpoints, and voice / video is contained in the RTP stream. Once a PSTN call is negotiated by Momentum Telecom (SIP), the media (RTP) is directly setup between endpoints. The RTP stream does not need to relay off of Momentum Telecom’s Class 5 switching infrastructure.
