Scope of the work - identifying, validating and trackingauthorized vehicles at Entry/Exits Each vehicle would be provided with a UHF tag –preconfigured

with the vehicle details and the company details.

At the time of entry at the main gate the vehicle tag would beautomatically sensed at the gate from a distance, at the sametime the system will check for the parking space allocated toparticular company and vehicle already parked there.

If a particular company has already used the space allotted, thensystem will deny the entry to the vehicle till any other vehicle ofthe company exits out from the premises.

Company wise vehicle parking allotted would be maintained andvalidated for each vehicle entry. Accordingly if the limit orallotment is reached, the parking lot full indicator would beactivated/ displayed.

How does it Work Passive tags and are available in different form factors and can be

attached to different types of machineries.

The Tags can be linked to the product master and their warranty/AMC details in the database. All products would be mapped to the respective Vendors details and their contact points (Email, SMS, Phone, Call center nos.)

Using a Hand held UHF reader, the Tag can be sensed and the Asset Maintenance/Breakdown Management system developed by Vicinity RFID would retrieve the relevant Product/Vendor details and based on the warranty/Service contract status provide an option to instantly intimate the Vendor contacts by email or SMS about the breakdown with product and model details.

A copy can be marked to Facilities in charge.

The solution is built on a .NET platform using a Windows Mobile OS and uses SQL CE as the database.

The solution comes bundled with the hardware.

PC Synchronization: Based on the requirement the database on the hand held can be synchronized with an offline database and options provided like dashboards and reports.

The PC based solution can also provide details like

list of Assets due for renewals

under warranty

Critical ratings list

Vendor wise Products and their Service status.

Typical issues at SitesA construction site would typically have many assets

which are used during the day and returned to the site store. It is important to keep track of such assets its usage, date and time of issue and the person to whom it was issued to fix responsibilities. However, considering the nature of environment and people involved it is difficult to enforce such process in a manual fashion.

How RFID can address these issues Automate Issue(I) and Receipt(R) by tagging all items.

Entry to stores to be RFID enabled (Reader/Antenna)

The tags would get detected at the entry/exit of the Stores if they are not issued and raise an alert.

Electronic proof with date time stamp of all I and R.

Track returns (supplier wise ,batch wise)

An RFID counter would be table top with antenna underneath which would detect all items placed on it.

An Issue or Receipt can then be generated electronically

Hand held readers can be used to reconcile all items at store at any point of time.

All items like electrical fittings, Bathroom fittings can be tagged at a item level or box level based on current item codification system.

•Concealed pipes, wires can be mapped to a route map

•Get visibility without opening /digging

•Trace fault lines quickly

Read under a concrete/wood/false ceilings/partitions In a construction setup, many concealed electrical conduits are laid as

per a design map or as per the requirement. Once concealed, it is difficult to know the exact location in case of maintenance or relaying.

Using RFID all junctions or key spots can be tagged at the conduit level or at junctions. These tags can be correlated to the wiring diagram with details of the wire and route map.

In future using a hand held reader it would be possible to locate the wire route at the site and screen would automatically link it to the diagram and its contents would be displayed.

Such a concept over a period of time would add immense value for tracking faulty lines or re-laying of cables.

•Track worker movement to strategic points

•Restrict unauthorized movements

•Re-use same infrastructure across projects

•Headcount during Emergency

How this works? All manpower and personnel at the site can be tracked at strategic

locations for movements and unauthorized movements can be tracked causing an alert. This would require a person to wear an RFID tag which could also be an identification card for the worker or personnel.

All the strategic entry and exit could be RFID enabled, such that any entry or exit would be tracked. This system is more aimed as an enabler which would work in conjunction with the physical security system.

In case of emergencies, it would be possible to trace the number of people inside the premises or who have not crossed the exit gate.

RFID needs Assessment

The first step is to form a multifunctional RFID team includingrepresentatives from Operations, Information Technology,Purchasing and Distribution.

Review the ‘Pain Points’ that you expect RFID may help solvesuch as Shrinkage at site, tracking personnel, Asset trackingand warranty management , Electrical conduit route mappingetc.

With these pain points, identify objectives and milestones.

Obtain technology orientation programme for the team. Getthem acquainted with the terminology, tools a and tasks.

Benefits Summary

Reduced Labor cost– Labor efficiency gains translate intoimproved customer service, Unmanned vehicle access control canresult in lesser personnel and focused activity for the securityteam. Larger or more the no of stores, higher the efficiency andthus reduces actual labor cost.

Reduced inventory Cost – RFID reduces unintentional excessinventory associated with over ordering due to poor accuracy

Reduced Shrink – RFID helps identify loss points, deterrence andreduction of administrative error

All assets like Laptop, printers and other moveable assets can betagged and leveraged on the same infrastructure for AssetTracking.
