Task 1:

APPROACHES TO SELF- MANAGED LEARNING

Self-managed learning can be described as taking responsibility for your own learning and to pursue your learning goals. There are many approaches to self-managed learning one being where the learner can attend conferences or seminars to share ideas and experiences to help the learner to develop skills and improve their personality development. The other approach to self-managed learning is social networking where a learner talks with other people on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and yahoo where they share their ideas and chat to colleagues about developing or learning new skills and as a part of developing their personality. A final approach is the internet where the learner can browse and learn many things; the learner can read journal, articles or e-books and share the knowledge with their mates in the class and work field. Other approaches to self-managed learning include interviews, newsgroups, and learning from others. (BPP Learning Media,2013)

I never attended seminars or conferences out of my city, because this all takes a lot of time while traveling and attending those. And I feel kind of boring while in seminars and conferences. I am suitable with social networking where I can chat and talk on different matters with my colleagues and I get new information which entertains me a lot. Actually I am interested in experiencing new, when I get a new knowledge I tell my other colleagues about it and I love sharing it. Basically I learn many new things and get a lot of knowledge from Facebook, twitter, and different blogs on internet. Different types of people around the world post their status on these blogs and I feel interesting reading those. While discussing about a team work, group work with my mates I use Facebook and Whats’app which actually costs me no money and I get instant reply from my mates. For example: - in class we were divided into teams by our tutor and I contacted and discussed about the team work and presentation in Facebook with my colleagues and explained each other to fulfill our team’s aim. I learn fast seeing. I actually use YouTube to see videos on the things I can’t do perfectly. For example:- There was a task in Research project assignment to make a “Gantt chart” and

I was at first worried to do it as I was not done it before. I watched two videos on YouTube and I learned to make my own Gantt chart. I often read newspaper and journals to improve my reading skills. I myself prefer books and journals while doing research on assignments. I like to work in groups because it gives me a way to learn something extra. Google has all the information, so I search Google if anything is new to me. Once I attended a seminar in Aurak, and I realized seminars and conferences develop the presentation skills.

Task 7

a) Self-managed learning is a way in which individuals can manage their own learning. This means organizations can have self-managed learning programmers that fit within their structure and ensure staffs is developing in a certain direction; or individuals can take responsibility for decisions about what and how they learn, and when and where they learn. Self-managed learning programs can be designed and developed, allowing individuals to lead and manage themselves through learning, so that can

continue to extend their repertoire of capabilities without the need to necessarily be reliant on another human resource to teach or manage their learning. It is a form of development where we take the initiative in learning new skills, knowledge and attitudes with the support of the organization.

Methods of lifelong learning

Social Networks: - There are, as Bourner (2011) notes, a range of different social networks including Facebook, Twitter, My Space, and so on, where people spend a part of their time. By logging into such sites, people can be chatting with friends or learning new things. This is particularly the case if people share information and knowledge through bulletin boards and forums. People can also learn how social network owners such as Mark Zuckerberg he became successful and using the information that they obtain, people can apply this knowledge to their own lives thereby find the means of succeeding in their own careers. I learn myself many new things from social networks.Internet:- Today the internet is the main source of all data. Specialist search sites such as Google Scholar are particularly useful for accessing academic journals and articles which are written by experts on a diverse range of subjects (Saba, 2012). Today Google has all the information; I collect all information through Google.Conferences:- People can learn through Seminars and conferences, as noted by Collin and Hammond (2013). Conferences are an effective tool as they give people the opportunity to present their knowledge about something to other people who end up learning new things; thus, seminars and conferences. Conferences help people to become more confident in speaking in public and may also develop their presentation skills, transferrable skills. Books:- Nowadays people get bored of sitting with books. Where nowadays people can read online books. But books give us the true fact and good knowledge. I myself prefer books and journal while doing research on assignments.

Group discussions:- In a group different people will be having different opinions, different skills and knowledge so everyone can learn from each other. So I always like to do works in groups because I get something extra to learn.Presentations and lectures:- This is something like spoon feeding the knowledge and skills. Universities and colleges use this method because this is the best method through which a student can learn so fast. So according to me it has a great learning influence on me. Lifelong learning can be encouraged by doing these methods mentioned above such as seminars social media online portals and secondary sources.

b) Benefits of self-managed learning on individual and organization:-Self-managed learning is an easy way to learn things first and develop ones self-confidence. Organization try to make sure their objectives are met and such objectives need to be SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound), this is by evaluating the qualities and expectations they need from the staff to those whom they have contracted with in achieving such objectives. They need staffs that have potential skills such as leadership skills, time management, and team player. Writing and communication skills, ambitious etc., such skills could be linked with objectives of the organization. The first benefit of lifelong learning is helping us to adapt to change. A lifelong learner will keep up with society by staying current and aware of changes in such areas as technology, news and political trends or finance and money issues. We adapt and grow and seem to increase on staying up on the latest technology. Lifelong learners look for opportunities to embrace the new technologies. The hugest benefit of lifelong learning is the enriching and fulfilling life it provides for us. To people for whom continuing education, they can look forward to active and meaningful lives. We all have subjects in which we are interested in. A lifelong learner uses opportunities to explore these topics which they find compelling. The end result can be less stress on the body, in the home, or family issues. There are so many benefits and positive impact of self-managed learning to the individual learner and

organization as well. It also help individual to acquiring decisional making skills through their past personal and professional experiences. In general individual learner can learn from their personal experience that could be an advantage for organization in a professional manner. While sharing with others within the organization some of the things like problem solving, these types of skills an individual can learn through self-managed learning which are transferable skills and can be learn from their co-workers at work place. Most of the organizations today prefer flexibility to their workers like assigned to different tasks without any personal commitments. With this self-managed learning individual may be able to learn and build skills and talent as below:Team Work SkillsAs we already discussed above self-managed learning by attending the seminars and group discussion this will help an individual to working in teams. Researches shows that every successful company have reason behind their success is good team work. So this not only help to gain growth to an individual this will help an organization to be successful.Presentation SkillsDoing their self-managed learning by attending the seminars and group discussions with others, that will enhance their individual communication and build good confidence as result learner learn how to make and present the presentations which gives the chance to express the knowledge and talk in front of others and which is an advantage for an organization.

Communication SkillsSelf-managed learning helps to develop communication and writing skills which is very useful for an individual as well as for organization objectives. It also help to work independent as result it comes up with their own and new concept and that will be share with others to learn new things which they don't know about it all. That will create a good working environment which gives good impact on organizational development.

Task 8For operational and tactical level half the staff goes to lunch at 12 to 1 and the other half from 1 to 2. At the strategic level monitor it and give punishments if the employee comes late from lunch.Honey and Mumford identified four separate learning styles:

1) Activist2) Pragmatist3) Reflector4) Theorist

Activists learn by doing. They don’t want to hear what they should be doing, they want to dive in head-first and have a go.Pragmatists care about what works in the real world. They aren’t interested in abstract concepts; they just want to know if it works.

Reflectors like to think about what they’re learning. They want to understand things thoroughly before they try them out.Theorists like to understand how the new learning fits into their ‘framework’ and into previous theories. They’re likely to be uncomfortable with things that don’t fit with what they already know.Learning Styles | SkillsYouNeed. 2015. Learning Styles | SkillsYouNeed. [ONLINE] Available

For example for strategic level most learners are reflectors as they look for future prospects and makes long term decisions. For tactical level most learners are theorist and pragmatist as they like to use concepts and apply it in the real world and they use them in a logical manner. For operational level learners are activist as they are doing learners and like to get involved in demonstrations or participations.

Communication plan for strategic, tactical and operational levels

Strategic level is the top level managers of the organisation. If the learning styles are communicated to top levels they can prepare themselves more systemically, and flexible plan as well which will help the organisation to live long. If they are more skilled the future of the company will be fruitful. So the learning skills should be communicated to the strategic level.

Tactical level is the supervisor level. They are the supervisors, line manager, branch manager they make day to day plan for an organisation. They always look after the company’s day to day work whether it is going smoothly or not. So they are also the core aspect of an organisation therefore the learning skills should be communicated to them as well.

Operational level is the daily workers, staffs or labours who does the works of the organisation with their own hand. They have to operate lots of

machineries so the must has some skills. So the employees must be well trained as well as the learning skills should be communicated to them as well.

Now we will talk how the learning methods can be communicated to the management levels.

Topic Ways of communication Tools

visual You prefer using images, pictures, colours, and maps to organize information and communicate with others. You can easily visualize objects, plans and outcomes in your mind's eye. You also have a good spatial sense, which gives you a good sense of direction. You can easily find your way around using maps, and you rarely get lost. The whiteboard is a best friend (or would be if you had access to one). You love drawing, scribbling and doodling, especially with colours.

black and white boards

Eboard

Verbal The verbal style involves both the written and spoken word. You find it easy to express yourself, both in writing and verbally. You love reading and writing. You like playing on the meaning or sound of words, such as in tongue twisters, rhymes, limericks and the like. You know the meaning of many words, and regularly make an effort to find the meaning of new words. You use these words, as well as phrases you have picked up recently, when talking to others.

Speaking (PowerPoint, Voice, Podcaster.

Writing (Word & PowerPoint, Blogs, Wikis & Discussion.

Social You have a strong social style, you communicate well with people, both verbally and non-verbally. People listen to you or come to you for advice, and you are sensitive to their motivations, feelings or moods. You listen well and understand other's views. You may enjoy mentoring or counselling others. You typically prefer learning in groups or classes, or you like to spend much one-on-one time with a teacher or an instructor. You heighten your learning by bouncing your thoughts off other people and listening to how they respond. You prefer to work through issues, ideas and problems with a group. You thoroughly enjoy

working with a 'clicking' or synergistic group of people.

Task 9Time management strategiesTime management strategies means to plan what to do within a limited time. This helps to get things done more professionally to avoid work overload and stress. Time management is a great professional development skill to build one’s own career. There are many resources available that can be used to improve time management skills. a)Taking online help and reading different articles on time management skills. b)Taking training on time management from the current company.c) Short courses or seminarsThere 3 type of time managementThe 3 time management strategies are:-Strategy 1- Know How You Spend Your Time- Keeping a time log is a helpful way to determine how you are using your time. Start by recording what you are doing for 15-minute intervals for a week or two. Now take a look at the results. Identify your most time-consuming tasks and

determine whether you are investing you’re time in the most important activities to help you.Strategy 2- Set Priorities- Managing your time effectively requires a distinction between what is important and what is urgent. One of the easiest ways to prioritize is to make a “to do” list. Whether you need a daily, weekly or monthly list depends on your lifestyle. Just be careful not to allow the list-making to get out of control and do not keep multiple lists at the same time. Rank the items on your “to do” list in order of priority.Strategy 3- Stay Healthy- The care and attention you give yourself is an important investment of time. Scheduling time to relax or do nothing can help you rejuvenate both physically and mentally, enabling you to accomplish tasks more quickly and easily. Poor time management can result in fatigue, moodiness, and more frequent illness. Regardless of the time management strategies you use, you should take time to evaluate how they have worked for you. Ask yourself a few simple questions: Do you have a healthy balance between work and home life? Are you accomplishing the tasks that are most important in your life? If you answer no to one of these questions you may need to rethink how you manage your time. Take the time to make sure you feel great about you and your accomplishments! Above all strategy are so important strategies for time management. But according to me strategy 3 is the main strategy I will focus on. Which is staying healthy, health is the main wealth. If health is not good the individual can’t perform any other strategies. So I should focus in my health so that I can cope up with strenuous work. So I must follow some proper steps:-

Proper food intake Proper exercise Proper rest Proper medicine if any sickness occurred Body check up every month So a healthy person can maintain the other strategies of time management and can find success. I select this strategy because it has much importance in an individual person.

We can see the importance of being healthy. Controls weight: - this will avoid obesity. As a result a person will be

more active in the work and the work can be done faster and quickly. Improves mind: - this helps so much while working. Good moods helps

to work more quickly with fill interest in it. Boost energy: - this will make the persons energy to boost and keep the

person energetic while working.JustificationActually I am not familiar with the scheduling. I feel a bit tough for it. The most suitable strategy for me is to prioritize the task. I will make a list of works to be done for today and then I will take minimum time required to finish the work, this is the way I can save my time and I can know which work is more important for me and which is less important.
