Trivia Night What a spectacular night last Saturday at the Calabria Club. It was great to see so many parents there, supporting our school. The auction items were a great success with Finn Dixon KF securing “The Principal for the Day” pack- age and excited parents receiving front row seats to the dance concert next week, and “week-free” homework pass- es. Thank you to everyone who attended the event and also donated prizes and time to make this event such a success. It was a great way to wrap up a very busy term. To Peta Morris and her fundraising team Tracey Wolf, Jacqui Watson, Amelia Johnson and Louise Knowles thank you for all the preparation that went into the night. A total of $14,000 was raised on the night. A very generous donation from the P&C to the school. Thank you to all who contribut- ed. Money raised will go towards some new computers for classrooms next year. Band Performances at the Northern Beaches Band Festival Last Friday night our junior and senior bands performed at The Pittwater High School Northern Beaches Band festival. Both bands performed 3 pieces of music that were cri- tiqued by professional conductors. Both bands put on im- pressive performances and received very positive feed- back about their performances. It was a wonderful way to finish the week, and a very proud moment for parents, teachers and students of Manly Vale. It is great to see how much both of our bands have improved and congratulate all members of both bands on their commitment and dedi- cation to this program. The early morning starts and tutor- ing have certainly paid off. Thank you to all the parents who at- tended the perfor- mances and to Ms Fisk and Ms Hall for their organisa- tion. To Ben and Misa our school conductors, congratulations on how you have prepared our bands for this performance. Well done to all involved. School Dance Concert Next Monday the whole school will be transported to Balgowlah Boys Campus for a final dress rehearsal of the school dance concert before the “big event” on Tuesday 23 June. There will be 2 dance concerts this year; K-2 dance concert - starting at 9.30am and 3-6 dance concert beginning at approximately 11.00am. The dress rehears- al is for the students only but everyone is welcome to attend the concert. Individual class teachers have sent home notes regarding costumes and hairstyles for the event. Some teachers have requested that students be at school by 8.30am and we understand children catching the bus will not be able to arrive at this time. Thank you to Mrs Learmont and Ms Panetta who have done most of the organisation for this concert and special thanks to Mrs Lyn Orrick our dance teacher who has choreo- graphed all the dances. The theme for the concert is “Manly Vale Public School in the 21st Century” which is a great way to launch our school’s 60 th birthday celebra- tions. Glen Street Performance Last night I was privileged to see our two school dance groups perform at the North Sydney Dance Festival at Glen Street Theatre. Our girls’ dance group performing “Warrior Princesses” and our boys’ dance group perform- ing “Mario Brothers”. Ms Panetta has done an amazing job in choreographing these 2 items and we are very lucky to have such a talented dance teacher on staff at Manly Vale Public School. Congratulations to both groups on your passionate performances. I was so proud of every Manly Vale student up on stage last night as were all the parents who attended. Congratulations! We look forward to seeing you perform again at the Open Day on Tuesday 21 July. Farewell Mrs Banham It is Mrs Banham’s last day at Manly Vale Public School as Mrs O’Grady returns from her long service leave to 2O’G. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Ban- ham for all her input into the school and her dedication to class 2O’G. We hope we will see more of her next term. Kindy Excursion Today our Kindergarten students will attend their first excur-sion to Darling Harbour and the Monkey Baa Theatre to see “Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.” It will be a lovely day out for our Kindergarten students.

Crazy Sock Day Yesterday we held a crazy sock day to raise funds for Olivia Inkster to support her trip to the National Swimming Champi-onships in Adelaide later this year. We raised a total of $429, which will go towards Olivia’s accommodation while she is there. Thank you to all our school community for their sup-port of our talented athlete Olivia and to the P&C for pur-chasing $400 of raffle ticket books. Good Luck Olivia in your quest for gold!

60th

Birthday Celebrations A flyer has gone out to all parents through our class coordi-nators about the upcoming Open Day for our 60

th birthday.

We will be opening the school all day on Tuesday 21 July for school tours, performances, a picnic on the oval and class-room visits. Please keep this day free to attend the school. All welcome. The celebrations will finish with a dinner on Saturday 25 July at Wakehurst Golf Club. Please email [email protected] to purchase tickets for this event. I hope everyone is able to come along and celebrate this momentous occasion with us all.

Travel Overseas and Extended Leave We now have a new application form for all of those families wishing to travel overseas or take an extended holiday. Rea-sons for absence and proof of travel arrangements are now a legal requirement for all families who will be taking an ex-tended leave of absence/overseas holiday from school. Please see the front office for the new forms.

Maths Extension Workshops Yesterday and today selected students have been given the opportunity to attend some extension maths workshops. Mrs Kemp has been busy organising special extension programs within the school to cater for our students who are requiring extension work in all areas.

Staff Development Day – Monday 13 July Just a reminder that after the school holidays from Friday 26 June to Sunday 12 July there will be a “pupil free” day at the school on 13 July. All Manly Vale Public School teachers will be involved in training on that day so alternative care ar-rangements need to be made. The Primary Oshcare can be contacted on 0430 369 288.

LIBRARY NEWS

Last Monday the K-2 children enjoyed a marvel-lous Reader’s Theatre performance of Aaron Blabey’s book The Brothers Quibble. Jaala Kemp organised the script and the rest of the teachers and I read and performed for the children. Their response and appreciation was overwhelming. Holidays are on their way, don’t forget your local library is already gearing up with a multitude of activities so if you don’t already belong, join your local library and enjoy happy reading through the holidays. Premier’s Reading Challenge — 2 more months left of the PRC, keep up the good work. Congratu-lations to the children who have already complet-ed the challenge! Glynis Poole—Teacher Librarian
