It should be noted that the learners will be writing a paper that will be set by the cluster. Thus all
Curro schools that offer English First Additional Language will write the same exams with the only
change being in the seen poetry sand literature sections. More details will follow as soon as the
papers have been finalised by the cluster leader.
PAPER 1
Question 1: Comprehension.
Learners will be asked to study a text and answer questions based on it. Questions will require
learners to find specific information as well as form their own opinions regarding the information in
the text.
Question 2: Language.
It is recommended that learners study all language taught during terms 1 and 2. The following also
serves as a guide to potential questions. Learners should consult their Learner Handbook and
Study guide as extra resource:

Question 3: Summary
Learners will be required to study a short text and then give a brief summary of the important
information contained in the text. This will be done according to a set format.
Question 4: Seen Poetry
Learners must study all the poems studied during term 1 and 2
Question 5: Unseen Poem.
Learners will be asked to study an unseen poem and answer contextual questions based on it.
Questions will also be asked with regards to poetic devices and the analysis of the poem.
Question 6: Visual Literacy.
Learners will be required to study an advert/cartoon and comment on whether it is successful as
well as identify elements that contribute to its success.
Question 7: Cellist of Sarajevo.
Learners will be required to answer a set of contextual questions based on the novel Cellist of
Sarajevo. They will also be asked questions that require them to think critically and formulate
opinions based on events from the novel.
PAPER 2
Question 1: Paragraph on theme.
Learners will be required to write a paragraph on the one of the themes of the novel Cellist of
Sarajevo.
Question 2: Personal response paragraph.
Learners will be required to give their personal opinion based on events/ideas in the novel Cellist
of Sarajevo.
Question 3: Dialogue
Learners will be required to write a dialogue between characters from the novel Cellist of Sarajevo
based on a set topic of discussion that relates to events from the novel.
