» TOURS & MORE

Not just for transport buffs, the museum invites visitors to get hands on with building bridges, rubbing coins, trying on period costumes and driving a bus simulator.

Learn more about the local transport history at one of our regular free tours. Our volunteers, many of whom have been personally involved with the local transport for many years, are available to give talks about the various vehicles, objects and collections.

» See a vintage fire engine up close, hear about the tram that used to be a fish & chip shop, find out the story of ‘Dean’ the living van and where Steamroller ‘Hilda’ got her name from. Bury Transport Museum offers a compelling insight into the local transport history and peoples’ lives and jobs in the early 20th century.

After a £3million refurbishment, Bury Transport Museum is now re-open to the public. Housed in the beautifully restored 1848 Castlecroft Goods Warehouse, the museum welcomes little ones and grown ups to a brand-new interior with a fascinating collection of vintage vehicles and original artefacts as well as interactive displays.

» LEARNING

Bury Transport Museum offers modern facilities and an exciting education programme, including the Geography ‘Rail Trail’, the Bury Town Trail and the popular Evacuee Experience which uses hands-on activities and original artefacts and documents from WWII to bring history of the evacuees back to life.
