The Mine tours, which are guided by volunteers, take visitors up and down the hills on the property. The Kennedy Tailing Wheels Park is located nearby, featuring the remaining tailing wheels that were used to carry the processed rock from the Kennedy Mine to an impound dam. Amador's Rich History

Indian Grinding RockState Historic Park

Amador County was established in 1854, after splitting from Calaveras County. Amador is blessed with spectacular scenery that changes with each season. Elevations range from 200 feet in the western area to over 9,000 at the crest of the High Sierras. State Highway 88 has been called one of the most scenic drives in America. The county seat is Jackson, founded in 1848 soon after the gold rush started.

Located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, eight miles east of Jackson. The park is nestled in a small valley 2,400 feet above sea level with open meadows and large valley oaks that once provided Native Americans with an ample supply of acorns. The 135-acre park preserves a great outcropping of marbleized limestone with 1,185 mortar holes - the largest collection of bedrock mortars anywhere in North America. Trails make it easy to explore

Amador County is among the last in the state to offer a non-commercialized glimpse of the past. The historic buildings and covered sidewalks are just as they were a over a century ago.
