Barracuda / Sigma Swim Team – Boys and GirlsSigma Swim and the Burleson Athletics Division have teamed up to provide a year round swim program for children ages 5 to 18 years old. This program will run in conjunction with our TAAF Barracuda swim team. This will give our swimmers the opportunity to increase their skill level throughout the year. Barracuda Circuit meets are Fridays and Saturdays beginning in June

and qualifying athletes can participate in the Regional and State Championships in July. Sigma Swim has additional meets throughout the year. The Barracuda/Sigma swim team is not a learn to swim program. A general rule of thumb is that the child must be able to swim independently, resembling the front crawl using rhythmic breathing for 50 yards without assistance in order to join the team.Fee $115 per participant / $45 if member of Sigma year round programBarracuda Registration April to end of May. Flag Football – Boys and Girls

I9 Sports and the Burleson Athletics Division have teamed up to provide a youth flag football program for kids ages 6 to 12. The program is facilitated by i9 Sports and begins in March.

All games will be played at Bartlett Park (550 NW Summercrest Boulevard). Qualifying teams will be eligible to participate in the TAAF state championships at the City of Southlake, November 15–17. For additional information, contact i9 sports at 682-502-4405. Register online at www i9sports com

Tennis – Boys and GirlsThe City of Burleson Athletics Division is pleased to announce the addition of a youth tennis program for ages 5 and up. The program includes monthly group sessions from the first of March through the end of October, private lessons, and a TAAF Tennis team in the summer. Lesson schedules are available online at www.teamsideline.com/burlesontx and at the BRiCk. Location for both the group lessons and tennis team are to be determined.

A copy of birth certificate is required at time of registration for the Tennis Team. Fee includes practice schedule, coaching, uniform top and TAAF registration. Participants are responsible for individual tournament fees if applicable.

Soccer Camp – SummerThe No. 1 soccer camp in the USA and Canada is coming back to the City of Burleson this summer! Campers will participate each day in the ever popular World Cup! Each player receives a FREE soccer ball, T-shirt, gift and camp evaluation. Register 45 days prior to camp and also receive a FREE replica British Soccer Jersey. A $10 late fee will be assessed on applications received within 10 days of the program start date. The camp will be held at the BISA Soccer complex (460 South Dobson Street).

Mini-Kickers Program – SpringThis program focuses on key child developmental areas through the medium of soccer. The goal is to improve each child’s motor skills, while advancing their physical, psychological and social development. Golf – Boys and Girls

The Athletics division and Hidden Creek Golf Course are teaming up to offer a TAAF golf team during the summer. Group lessons are offered by golf professionals at Hidden Creek and tournaments will be available through the Athletics Division. Each child who participates in the group lessons will be eligible to be a member of the TAAF golf team in the Athletics Division. TAAF tournament information will be posted on the athletics website at www.teamsideline.com/burlesontx when available. Tournaments generally have a $25 entry fee. Classes must have a minimum of four children enrolled by the Wednesday prior to the start date or the class will be cancelled or consolidated with another, which may start at a different time.

n Make-up Lesson PolicyThe only time makeup lessons are offered is in the event of inclement weather or unforeseen closure of the pool. If your child misses a lesson due to illness, schedule conflict, special event, tardiness or any other personal reason, there will be no make-up lessons, sitting in on another class or a partial refund given. Swim Lesson General Informationn Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills Participants will be taught beginning skills such as fully submerging face in water and retrieving objects, front and back floats, moving comfortably through water and entering and exiting water independently.

n Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic SkillsParticipants learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. Participants continue to explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on their front and back.

n Level 3: Stroke DevelopmentParticipants learn elementary backstroke, rules for headfirst entries and techniques for treading water. Participants will learn rotary breathing to coordinate their front crawl and will work towards swimming 25 yards.

n Level 4: Stroke ImprovementParticipants improve their skills and increase their endurance by swimming front crawl and elementary backstroke for distances of 25 yards and greater. The breaststroke and butterfly are introduced in Level 4, as well as the basics of turning at a wall.

n Level 5: Stroke RefinementParticipants will coordinate and refine their strokes as well as increase their endurance by swimming distances of 50 yards and greater. Flip turns, both on the front and back, are introduced.

n Private LessonsOne-on-one instruction for your star swimmer. These lessons are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Course Prerequisites• Minimum Age – 15 (By the last day of class)

• 300 yard continuous (without stopping) swim – Candidates must demonstrate breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates must swim freestyle, breaststroke, or a combination of both strokes. Swimming backstroke or sidestroke is not allowed.

• Timed Event – Treading water for two minutes using only the legs. Candidates must place their hands under their arms.

• Timed Event – Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using free style or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards on the back with the object in their arms to the starting point and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Those who are not able to pass the prerequisite skills predetermined by the American Red Cross will not be permitted to remain in the class due to liability and risk factors associated with the physical demands of the course. A refund of $150 may be remitted to those who do not pass the prerequisite skill test, which is the class fee less the cost of the non-refundable registration fee.

Participants who are 16 years of age and pass both the written and physical tests of the course will be certified by the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED, making them eligible for employment as a certified lifeguard. Although the City of Burleson may hire from the group selected, employment by the City of Burleson is not guaranteed.
