    Introduction:

    A) Description:

    GRC cladding panel F1-12 is manufactured out of 12mm thick GRC with edge ribs and

    intermediate ribs in vertical and horizontal directions. The edge ribs and intermediate ribsare generally 75mm wide x 75mm thick. Some ribs are 75mm wide x 125mm thick (nearmiddle support points). The largest panel has dimensions of 2.01m width x 3.975m

    height. Each panel is supported on six brackets. The two central brackets carry all the

    vertical loads and some horizontal loads from panel. Two upper and two lower bracketscarry only horizontal loads from panel. The brackets are anchored to RCC wall using two

    types of anchors namely, 1) Post fixed anchors and 2) Embedded anchors. This volume

     provides design calculations for the following items. Analysis is done using Staad

    software and Design is done using MS Excel spreadsheets.

    1.  2.01m wide x 3.975m long GRC panel

    2.  16mm dia. Socket rod3.  16mm dia. Dowel rod4.  Bracket BKT15.  Post fixed anchors6.  Embedded anchors

    B) Design Data and Codes:

    B.1) Loads considered:

    Design Loads:

    The items are designed for the following loads.

    Load Case 1: Dead Load:

    Dead Load consists of the weight of panel including skin and ribs. Unit weight of GRC is

    20.8kn/cum. Note that weight of GRC panel is calculated internally and included inanalysis by Staad software, therefore it is not applied separately.

    Live Load

    Live Load need not be considered as the panels are installed vertically and no Live Load

    is expected.

    Wind Load:

    Wind Load is taken from “Cladding Pressure Study Report” generated by RWDI. As per

     paragraph 5 of the report, two Wind Load cases are considered.

    Load Case 2: Wind-1: Negative pressure (suction) of 2.5kn/sqmLoad Case 3: Wind-2: Positive pressure of 2.5kn/sqm

    Load Combinations:

    Based on PCI 130 recommendations, the following Load Combinations are considered.

    LC101: 1.05Dead + 1.275Wind-1

    LC102: 1.05Dead + 1.275Wind-2LC103: 0.9Dead + 1.3Wind-1

    LC104: 0.9Dead + 1.3Wind-2

    LC105: 1.4Dead

    C) Conclusion:

    The enclosed calculations show that stresses and displacements are well within allowed

    limits. Therefore, the member sizes provided are adequate. The Summary is as below.

    Maximum horizontal displacement (ultimate value) = 1.911mm at node 180 for LC 103.Thus, Maximum horizontal displacement (service value) = 1.911/1.3 = 1.47mmAllowable service deflection = Span/240 = 1380/240 = 5.75, hence Safe

    Maximum vertical displacement (ultimate value) = 0.001mm at node 127 for LC 105.Thus, Maximum vertical displacement (service value) = 0.001/1.4 = 0.001mm

    Allowable service deflection = Span/240 = 1380/240 = 5.75mm, hence Safe

    The absolute maximum flexural stress (ultimate) in GRC skin occurs for LC103 =1.86n/sqmm. (Refer to the stress diagrams enclosed for LC101 to LC105)

    Flexural strength of GRC = 4.631n/sqmm, hence Safe 

    Refer to the enclosed design calculations for edge rib 75x75, intermediate rib 75x75,

    edge rib 75x125 and intermediate rib 75x125. The calculations show that sizes provided

    are adequate, hence Safe

    Refer to the enclosed Staad analysis report of bracket BKT1.

    The absolute maximum stress (ultimate) in plate = 66.8n/sqmm

    Strength of plate in bending = 275n/sqmm, hence SafeStrength of plate in shear = 165n/sqmm, hence Safe

    Refer to the enclosed calculation for post fixed mechanical anchors. 4-M16 anchors per

     bracket are adequate.Actual tension (ultimate value) in anchor = 12.1kn

    Tension capacity of anchor = 20.816kn, hence Safe

    Actual shear force (ultimate value) in anchor = 3.9knShear capacity of anchor = 23.9kn, hence Safe 

    Refer to the enclosed calculation for embedded anchors. 4-M16 anchors per bracket areadequate.

    Actual tension (ultimate value) in anchor = 12.1kn

    Tension capacity of anchor = 93.4kn, hence Safe

    Actual shear force (ultimate value) in anchor = 3.9knShear capacity of anchor = 49.7kn, hence Safe
